Today the infinium labs informs Gamasutra that the Phantom is nolonger a game console, but rather a game client for Windows XP. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3152886
This is good and bad in my opinion. It is good that there will be an on demand game client for anybody with a PC and internet connection to use, but now, you have to buy your own hardware, as opposed to getting it free with a subscription, and you wil not be able to just plug it into your TV and play from the couch, unless your GFX card supports TV out (which most up to date ones do) and you have a good wireless keyboard and mouse set up. Well now that I have talked about it, what do you think?

...

...

This could be a funny situation, but for some reason it isn't. I wonder if those guys at Infinium Labs will ever come up with anything cool aside from their name, let alone actually release it to the public.

GameTag is BORING!!! You are paying someone to play roms online...

Phantom is looking to do the same? Apparently they don't know zSnes and DGEN and MAME...they wanna risk losing money, that is their peragative.

If I donated money to them to make the console, I would be pissed and demand that money back. BUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTT...I'm a tad bit smarter and decided to put my money in the stock market. I'm telling ya...Rocket Squirrels are going to be big. Put your money on them now...your funds will soar high.

Do we know if the people at Infinium are going to be pushing original content, or libraries of older games?
Warranty-Voiding fun!

Got a link, it sounds like a good investment..

It's funny, they had $5 million to make a machine, and instead they made software and ditched the machine.. I bet share holders feel ripped off.. I know I would.

This seems right, the Phantom was only just a redressed PC anyways.

Now that the Phantom isn't coming out, what about the other long-delayed vaporware Duke Nukem Forever?

Or Port Washington? Oh wait, nevermind.

Seriously though, I trust 3D Realms to finish Duke Nukem Forever, but by the time it's done, the processor arcitechture it's written for will be obselete.

Actually, even somebody like Marshallh would be able to finish Duke Nukem Forever on his own. Really 3D Realms, why!? When will it come out? "When it's done" isn't good enough!
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...
