analog stick swapping

Post by project_failure » Mon Jul 24, 2006 11:59 pm

Ok, i hate dreamcast analog sticks. I like xbox analog sticks. I have two broken xbox controllers, and plenty of dreamcast controllers. Can i put a xbox analog stick on a dreamcast controller. I have seen a playstation analog stick on the dreamcast portable by dkap01.

So the question is do you THINK it can be done. You don't have to be a hundred percent sure. 60% and up will do. :?

after having a look at the guts for both controllers analog sticks seem simular enough except the xbox analog sticks have tact switches. Do you think that will make any difference

It shouldn't be any problem, maybe you could hook a button up to it, so the you can keep your thumb on the stick and push a button.

Most controllers use the exact same type of joystick module these days. I've never seen a Dreamcast or an XBox controller joystick, (with the actual stick off) so I don't know about this, but if you're lucky you can just slip the joystick off both controllers (you have to take them apart, duh) and slip the XBox joystick right onto the Dreamcast joystick module shaft. I'm probably wrong, but all I know is that it works with PSX/PS2 and Gamecube controllers. Give it a shot; it's the simplest method you can hope for.

XBOX controllers use pots (common) but dreamcast is the only one i know of that uses magnets. but as i said before, 3rd party controllers almost definatley use pots.

well the dreamcast controller i opened was a madcatz (3rd party) and they looked the same. I'll open up a first party dreamcast controller to be sure though.

See if you can pull the joystick off the Madcatz controller.

Look at the pictures from my thread here. See how the actual plastic joystick pieces come OFF the joystick module? See if you can do that (just pull straight up on it) with your joystick.
