Cases for the poor/cheap

Post by charli_kilo »

I was wondering what are some meathods for homemade cases that arent too pricey? can I just melt down like 100 plastic forks and spoons into a mold or is it more complicated then that?

Box method. Find a box (tackle box, plastic box, shoe box, etc.) that will house all your electronics and jazz it up with paint/graphics. Looks good that way!

Yes, that's easy. Also, if your parents think it will blow up or something, tell them it won't

lol, right.

For cases I've always used the existing case and just built onto that. With the use of bondo marine putty and spray paint it ends up looking pretty good! However for some of my newer portables, the existing cases are too big and a $6 project box from RadioShack will be used.

Yes, G-force brings up a good point; if the original case is used, you KNOW everything will fit  ! Oh, and speaking of the box method... one thing I forgot to say was a wood box. I just picked one up the other day from JoAnn Fabrics (they have them at Michaels too). The person I am building the new NESp with wanted a wood case. I was kinda skeptical, but now that I've seen them, I think they would look great stained/painted. Plus, they're super cheap.

When I built my first case-modded N64, it wasn't hard to make it look good. The N64 probably isn't the best one to case mod, though. It's almost impossible to get everything inside there.

On the other hand, the SNES would be a piece of cake to fit everything (screen, batteries etc) into.

Despite that, yours looks good  . Also, I wonder why no one has done a case mod on the SNES Mini. I did one, but I dropped it down the stairs and it shattered; don't get me wrong, it was a blessing in disguise, seeing as my new case was far superior. But still, I think anyone with a steady hand would be able to pull it off famously :D !
