Full motion video on a 8088

Post by marshallh » Mon Jan 23, 2006 9:18 pm

Alright, I saw this on Hackaday and it is so amazing - Trixter from oldskool.org wrote a system to playback 30fps video with PCM sound on a 4.77mhz IBM pc with CGA color in text mode.

If you have used one of these beasts, you'll know how amazing this feat is.

Here's the article:

The video is awesome:

I'm loading this on my Leading Edge 8088 as I speak

Watch the "Entropy" demo on the C64 DTV. You will be amazed! Also one of the Atari 2600 demos is amazing!

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Once again modern technology has been back ported to 8bit computers with no real advantage in sight. Nice novelty but really what is the point of having full motion video on an 8bit computer?

And besides the addion of sound and color it's not new. Mr. Atari did a full-motion video clip from the Matrix: Reloaded. Though in Mr. Atari defence the scene doen't have much color just black.

Actually, I was amazed when this ran flawlessly on my Windows XP box... I have to get a 8-bit LAN card for my 8088 so I can get the demo onto it!

I dunno... Mr Atari, the guy who did the MyIDE interface I used for that laptop, he did FMV on the ATARI 800 that looks a lot better than this. B&W, but much better.

for some reason i havnt been able to view hackaday for like 2 weeks. It keeps timing out. I just thought the site was down or something but i guess not. Any suggestions on what might be wrong. Ive tried clicking links, my bookmark, and typing it in the adress bar and it still wont work.
