Wireless internet

Post by zachsjlives »

Hi, i am new to the forums and am looking to start either a ps2 portable or a ps1 portable project. I have a few ideas for a ps2 project but i dont know if they would work and i dont want to waste my time and money.

1) Wireless internet

I have my basic ps2 hooked up to wireless transmitter and i thought i would be awsome to include that somehow, is it possible to add the wireless internet as a feature or would it mess up the system somehow (i dunno, newb)

2) Hard drive

Only a small, light storage unit plugged into one of the usb ports, pehaps conceled in the case for like mp3s or something

These are just a few ideas floating around my head, i dont know if they are possible at all but they would be cool to have.

Those ideas would work, but they'd increase the power needed also. I'd say it might even tripple the total power needed.

Edit:
Also, your avatar is pretty big, could you make it smaller?

If you made it so that you can independently turn on/off the HDD and wireless recieve/transmitter you could do just fine. I say that as Gannon is right hard drives suck down power and I cant see anyone using the wireless thing all the time.

Good luck.

P.S. if you want to save yourself from wasting time/money I'd say research the HDD thing and find the power draw of the wireless item. As I've never heard of connection a HDD to the USB plug.

a wi fi usb key will work I tried it on mine. They cost at the most $10 and use like no power.

put a wifi to eithernet bridge in the ps2p! you can get a 102.11b wifi-ethernet bridge for about $60! http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getp ... s%20bridge

put this bad boy into your ps2p and let the online play commence!

Um that thing is pretty big. And since the PS2 supports USB eithernet connections a USB Wi-FI adapter is cheaper and smaller. Jack Frost mentioned this near the begging of the thread. However if someone was going to make a portable of another system(like Dreamcast or Xbox) this would probably be a good wireless solution.

oh i did not know that the ps2 can accept a usb wifi device. knowing that i would reccomend, (like somebody already said) a usb mini-wifi adapter.

Hm if a keyboard came up as a memory card, do you think you could use a USB key for saves? That would be pretty cool.

I think he means that his usb thumbdrive came up as a memory card, not a usb keyboard :)
