Yeah where they tell you what you see and tell of objects.
Example:You arrive in a small town. Ye see a flask in yon' dungeoun. Possible directions are North, East, South, and Dennis.

They only have text too.

But The one one homestarrunner.com is an o.k. one (I just quoted from it).

zork
ballyhoo
hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
planetfall
leather goddesses of phobos
bureaucracy

Yeah, a text adventure game, a game with just written words on the screen. Most were made back "in the day" before PCs had decent graphics displays (if any at all). They're also called "Interactive Fiction" games. They are sort of like playing one of those paper-dice-and-book RPGs with your computer.

www.the-underdogs.org has a ton of them! :D

Zork
Zork II
Zork III
The Lurking Horror
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Leather Goddess of Phobos ;)
A Mind Forever Voyaging

Here's a list of all the Infocom Text Adventure games on Home of the Underdogs.

There's a text adventure minigame on the MMORPG Kingdom of Loathing called "The Strange Leaflet Quest", but you have to play the game for a while in order to get to it. But KoL is a fun game! :D

Making your own can be fun, too. Go back to Home of the Underdogs and look up "Computer NOVEL construction set". You don't need to know ANY programming to make a text adventure. (but it uses message boxes and stuff, but all with ASCII characters and stuff. :D)

Also look up ANSIDUDE, a text based "alien on Earth" game.

but according to Infocom they use 'the most powerful graphics processor ever created'.
I guess the human mind is pretty powerful, but I raised mine on too many cartoons.

to this day I don't know exactly what a grue looks like, but I *really* don't want to find out.

Return to Zork was pretty graphically advanced for a 1994 PC game...

Us in the States had Oregon Trail, another fine staple in elementary computing.
