got myself an OUYA

Post by eagle5953 » Sat Jul 20, 2013 9:57 pm

I wasn't a backer, but I did pick up a Ouya recently. Thus far, my impression is that it shows promise but is somewhat unrefined.

Anyone else have one? Thoughts?

I've got one and so far I love it. Though I didn't really buy it to play android games. Rather to use as a little emulator box/media center thing.

Its really a shame that their market/store is not more mature. There's really not many games there I'd actually plunk any money down on yet. I also really don't like the fact that prices to buy the full games are not listed where you can easily find them. Everything is set up to look like its free until you actually download it and launch it. Then are presented with short demo's or pay to play kind of crap. Then you're offered to buy the full game.

That being said, its a great little media center/emulator box. No one can dispute this. If you think this is BS, then you're using the wrong emulators. Or just don't know what your doing.

Side loading is a bit fiddly at first until you manage to get superuser installed and then can install whatever you like. Once set-up for it, side loading works pretty well and a lot of games pick up the controller with no additional setup required.

Overall it does what I bought it for, and it does it well. If the OUYA store shapes up a bit it'll be a great little console.

The controller is not as bad as people go on about either, though the triggers could use some improvement. Besides, PS3/360/wiimotes work out of the box too.

Still fiddling with it, but I'm impressed overall. Enjoying Organ Trail more than I should.

I'm still not sold on it right now. I'll probably give it some time to mature before I'll think about getting one.

Who knows if the Namco Portable will ever become a reality? :P

I'm planning on bringing it to upcoming MGC events, including that reason!

I was a developer edition backer on Kickstarter, the early units they sent out were pretty bad, controller wise. The retail units are a lot nicer, though, definitely an awesome emulation box.

Fantastic emulation box, I agree. The controller on the regular release is improved but still not great. I prefer the comparatively superior Nyko Playpad Pro. It's also cheaper than additional Ouya controllers.
