where can i get a "Mini Digital Joystick"

Post by superspudz2000 » Sat Jul 13, 2013 9:06 pm

this has been bothering me for awhile, does anybody know where i can get a very small Digital Joystick, what i mean is something like a PSP analog nob, but its Digital, so only 5 wires to solder, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RiGHT, GROUND.

or is there a simple way to modify a analog stick thats completly Noob-Proof.

i would like to find something like a NeoGeo pocket replacement stick, or like the GP32 stick. i love the "Clicky" feel of those ones.

i would even settle for a smaller-than-normal red ball top arcade stick. the only arcade sticks i can find are HUGE.

Search for a 4 way tact switch.

i looked into those before, the problem is nobody sells a proper joystick to stick on it. some come with a button on top. im looking for some kind of small "bat handle" or "red ball".

i could probably just put 4 switches on a board, but its still the same problem, how to fashion it together to make a nice joystick.

heres what i have so far:

as you can see, it just comes with a red button. i dont know why they dont include a bat handle to go with it.

and this is approximately the type of joystick im looking for:

but its way too expensive, and nobody sells it anyway.

also, there used to be a thing called "Razor X PSP Nub", which i guess turned a PSP nub into digital imput???

but the website was shut down, and its nowhere to be seen anymore.

the other thing i was looking at was this:

cheap plastic, ugly, and way to expensive just for a part. not suitable at all.

You can cut the slides on normal analog stick potentiometers, and use pull down resistors to bring them low enough to trigger digital switches.

Or, buy one of these, they have an awesome digital stick inside: http://www.pdp.com/p-1026-versus-contro ... r-ps3.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is what you want, it is the same stick the guy that made the tiny donkey kong cabinet used.

Ahh, here is the part from Digikey:

Here is the Datasheet, note that you can change the handle on the stick, so if you wanted to make a ball top to fit you could.
