I was wondering if i could turn my home pc into a server so like if i was at someones house i could access the songs from my computer or maybe host my own website I know i would need to buy a url and i have cable so i have an always on connection do u think it would work? and if so is there any software i need to get to do so?

If you want to use your computer as a web server, you have to buy not only a URL, but a static IP address. For music, try vnc and/or mercora.

You don't necessarily need a static IP address. There are free services that provide subdomains for dynamic/semi-static IP addresses. One of them is at:
http://www.no-ip.com/
I use that so I can get to my home computer anywhere.

Yeah, I'm currently setting up one of my older PCs as a file/proxy server.
Those firewalls will never bother me again :D

all you need is to know your IP, Windows XP can set that all up for ya. I personally have an ftp setup on my computer.
