I'm pretty sure he meant LED. Personally, I wouldn't bother. The laptop screens are hard to replace if you screw up, and if it's an old laptop that wouldn't really matter if you do it wrong, it's probably not worth it. But then again, that's just me...

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

Sort of you can ebay new screens, but they are expensive.
Also why would you want to? Im 99% sure that laptops can only be attached to, lets say and dvd player or a nes, if you use a expensive and rare decoder card.
Unless your making a laptop even more portable or want longer battery life.
Overall, I dont think its worth the effort.

Oh, well if thats the case you can try to find a voltage on the thing that was powering the lamp. Look for a steady voltage (this should be on the part of the board the computer conects to). Then go to www.digikey.com, or something and look for some leds. After you do this decide on how many leds youy will need to acomplish lighting the screen. Then type this into a google search substituting a for supply voltage, b for the sum of all the leds typical voltages, and c for the sum of all the leds current needs. The formula is (a-b)/c, so lets say you find a steady 20v output, the voltage requirement is 10v, and the total amp consumption is 150 mah. Type into a google search "(20 volt-10 volt)/150 milliamp" and you get the resistor value you need. Then hook up every thing like the pathetic draying im about to do=> (- and | is wire, L is a led and /\/\/\/ is a resistor)

----------------+20v
| | | | |
L L L L L
| | | | |
-----------/\/\/\--gnd

Please excuse the pathetic drawing and you might want to doublecheck the formula on doomportables I could be wrong. At this point in time Im getting tired writing the thing and I could be wrong on anything. I am not responsible if you break anything, or whatever, if you get hurt of something happens its your problem.
