Yes, another plea for gamebit screwdrivers

Post by Reubensupernerd » Mon May 16, 2011 11:47 pm

Hey guys, recently I bought some 4.5mm and 3.8mm gamebits and was using them for repairs. They were the cheap variety, they began to strip. I know that steel ones of higher quality are manufactured but I am unable to find any screwdriver that has a 4.5mm connector built in. The reason I need a 4.5mm screwdriver, not bit, is that when opening a virtual boy, there are these really deep, really narrow wells. My current bits (because of the standard connector that connects the bit to the handle) do not fit down these holes. I saw the mention of "snake eye spanners" in the nintendo screws post, and I'd like to acquire one of these (cant find them anywhere). unfortunately I do not have a dremel, so I cannot make my own. sooooo...y'know what? PM me if you have any to sell. <- should probably be in the trading post section

Apologies for the rambling post, I havent slept much recently.
Reuben

You can probably use JB Weld with those bits onto a metal rod or something like that, to get down into the screw wells.

Hey marshallh,
That's a great idea, but the only problem is that the part of the bit which connects to the bit driver (the part where it widens) is too wide by itself. These virtual boy screw wells are extremely skinny.

Then you might need to cut off the bit before it widens and weld onto there.

if that does not work then go for a hammer

and then you can always try kevin242 suggestion
http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php ... 05#p283905" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

my personal favorite is newelectronx. its been awhile since i been there and my bits are still kicking. but a buddy of mine just got some bits off them and the rumor is that they have designed a longer gamebit especially for that. i would give them a holler and see whats up. tell 'em you need one to open up a 4.5mm to open up a virtual boy.

http://www.newelectronx.com/proddetail.php?prod=gamebit" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the one i got is off their website and they are pretty long, longer then any i have gotten off ebay or amazon. anyways supposedly the newer ones are longer. but he said you have to ask them for specifically before you buy. so if the other suggestions don't work then there you go with another suggestion.

I made one out of a old flat head screwdriver, used my dremel to cut a bit out of the middle

oops, my bad, didn't read the bit about no dremel :oops:

Use a file, or an abrasive stone. (edit) on the tool, not the Virtual Boy.
