I've seen them and wondered if it would be possible to add a cart slot, but I never bought and cracked one open.

I just read a lot of previous threads about these. The conclusions seem to be:
This is a GOAC.
The GOAC chip is the large glop-top.
The ROM chip is likely the middle glop-top.
The small glop-top is SRAM.
The 9 contacts on the bottom in your picture are for player 2.

No one, however, managed to deduce how to remove the ROM chip or add a cart slot.

If all else fails when trying to hack it. It's great for harvesting the D-pad off of.

I dunno. I will probably mess around with it a bit.

I've used Dragon before - it's good.

Yesterday, I found a seemingly-new in box Thermaltake 500w power supply at Goodwill for $25. Yay me.

Nice. Reminds me, sometime I need to get my LD-V6010A fixed. It'll play part of a movie and then stop working for a while. (I think maybe some beads out of a lightning disc lamp that got broken near it might have fallen in it, or it could just be dust buildup inside, so maybe if I just open it and clean it out...)

Only real problem I've had with it otherwise is this annoying buzzing/humming noise it makes on the speakers when I play my LD of The Lion King, the volume of the noise stays constant even when the rest of the audio gets louder/quieter, and I don't think it's the disc because the person I got the disc from never had that problem with it in their player.

We had a small birthday party for my dad over at a friends of the family's house Yesterday.

While I was there, the husband wanted me to look at his Portable Media Player. To see whats wrong with it and fix it if I could. (I took it home and it's fixed now.)

While I was looking over the player for the first time. I noticed his "Doom" and "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" box and packaging. (I've seen them before there at the house.) I went to pick up I think the Wolenstein box. And he asked me if I wanted both Wolfenstein and Doom. I asked him if he was sure, and he said I could have them.

So I got "Doom Collector's Edition" and "Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Game of the Year Edition" for free!

Now I can play Doom for the first time without it being a demo

Pulled an SGI O2 out of the trash at work, going to put in an AMD Geode-based Mini-ITX board I've got lying around. It's only 1 ghz, but the layout is standard so eventually a better board should just bolt right in. It's probably going to become a NAS.

The only bad thing is they used the most brittle plastic known to man when they built the things. The retaining tabs on a couple plastic parts broke in the car on the way home. :|

pics! you should get it up and running IRIX or something, that would be way cooler than a mini itx board

There were actually five of them, none of which were working. They'd automatically power on and just stop with a red power LED. Too bad because it was actually pretty ballin' for its day: 400 mhz CPU, A/V board, 1 gb RAM (eight 128mb sticks ), 9 gig SCSI hard drive, running Maya 2, Patriot, and some weather production software. I reseated all the cards and memory, jumped all the magical reset jumpers outlined in the manual, and had no luck reviving this one. (It was in the best cosmetic shape.) The plan is to keep it looking as stock as is practical, with space for three hard drives. Someday I might get a newer Mini-ITX motherboard (preferably with eSATA), load it up with 2 TB hard drives and make a 6+ TB NAS. I didn't take any pictures of the disassembly process, but if you want I can snap some SGI n00ds. :P

Besides, a NAS (especially an eventual 6 terabyte one) is much more useful than some old pretty pictures machine.

Build log with pictures to look at: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=41895" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also went to Savers this afternoon and picked up a real SuperJoy III with all the accessories for $7. 8) e: Okay so the trigger on the gun is jammed and it's missing the little battery cartridge thing's door. The sound is scratchy and very 'off' but it works.
