$9 including shipping, the pawn shop guy lied to you. :P
I guess I forgot to mention that they were Sony cables, not generic junk.

And those are for PSP anyway.
Right you are! Quite a mistake there.

Bah, official ones look the same as generic junk, and I think my local gamestop has official ones for $30, which is still a ripoff in my opinion.

Yeah, I've seen Sony-brand component cables for the PS3 at GameStop and Circuit City for $25. Still a better deal than Wal-Mart's, which charges you an extra $15 and only gives you a USB cable.

Still, I wonder if there's actually any noticeable difference between generic third-party cables and authentic Sony ones?

You probably wouldn't notice a difference, I sure don't notice the difference between my Generic 360 Component cables and the ones that came with my 360.

I figured as much. I guess it's like most other things, where you're really only paying for a brand name. (My Dad actually bought a set of Xbox 360 component cables on clearance at Wal-Mart for something crazy like $2.50. Too bad we don't have a 360.)

Either way, I wouldn't mind getting a TV with component inputs, even if the highest display mode I can afford is 480p.

What would probably give you the best quality/price ratio would be to solder some RCA jacks to the right spots on the mobo, then use some low oxygen composite/audio cables, which are extremely cheap these days. :D

You mean to the TV, or the console, or both?

If it's the TV, I don't think mine would support 480p. It was an el-cheapo model even when I got it years ago. Of course, I don't know much about TV hacking.

If it's the console, I don't think it'd be wise for me to crack open my PS3, especially if it's still under warranty. Not to mention the whole I'm-out-$400-bucks-if-I-screw-up part. Might not be a bad idea for my PS2, though.

In other words, it may not be possible for me, but I think it could work very well for other people.

Well... I meant the console, but both would be cool too, I suppose.

I have soldered on RGB jacks to my PS2 back when I had one, it worked fine.

I might try that sometime if I can get my uncle's old broken PS2 from him.

I wonder if doing the same thing would be possible with the Dreamcast? I know it'll output VGA, so it makes me wonder if component is possible, too. If so, I've got a broken Dreamcast I've got great plans for.

Not a garage sale purchase, but I just scored "Burnout Paradise" for the PS3 for $16.10 at Circuit City. Quite a bit cheaper than I had expected; 25% off!

Sadly, it'll probably be the last thing I ever purchase at Circuit City, unless they lower their "going-out-of-business" prices to be able to beat a standard "weekend sale" price.

Not bad at all! All of that sold separately on ebay could easily get $10 or more. Not sure on the memory card though. Nice find.
