song chuan 894h-2ah1-f-c Please Help

Post by Hifeno » Mon Sep 06, 2010 7:11 pm

Anybody know where I can get 2 to 4 of these cheap without spending a fortune. My Phillips Theatre Director Stoped working and there are two of these inside that smell burnt. Really bad. When I test the spots everything points to those being bad. I think I can just replace them and everything should be back up and running.

Ya I found those too but you have to spend at least $25 to order from them. And I could not find anything else I would use for portables or whatever.

Id say you were pretty lucky to find them at all. Digikey has a similar $25 rule. Thems the breaks.

These are some 12V relays that I've taken out of 'broken' PSU's (left) and microwaves (right) for illustration purposes.

While these are 5 A and 16 A out of I do find 10-15 A in the left style; however I usually trade these quickly to other hobbyists.

If you have no money but time try your local hackerspaces.org to see if anyone has a few to spare. Or visit your local computer shop and ask for 'broken power supplies', when they build/upgrade a system the garbage PSU that comes with the case becomes waste that they need to dispose of. Depending on your charisma you can snag a bag for a couple dollars, but don't expect to find too many +10A relays unless you get one that is genuinely broken.

Quest is probally you5r best bet. It looks as though this item is in an obsoletion stage. I'd grab how many you need quickly.

Relays obsolete?
I don't know if this particular make/model might is ending; however I'm willing to bet that parts with the same specifications and foot print will be around for another decade.

edit:
Winter is right in that you can buy the exact replacement part now while you still can and enjoy a few more years of service (unless someting else is wrong it breaking them too).
Instead of doing what I'd suggest and kludge together 'free' relays (6+6=12) and enjoy a few years of service, or cuss when the kludge fails.
Or kludge in a relay of higher rating and enjoy many years of service (unless there is something else wrong that breaks something more difficult to replace because the relays are too strong to fail first).[/list]

I've posted a relevant tutourial for modifying relays on my blog at meow-snow.blogspot.com Reducing a relay's control voltage on.

This modification could allow two coils to be run in series from a single 12V source, (incase excessive current draw from two coils in parallel is a concern).
