Yes when you go to My Computer it should show under Devices with Removable Storage.

Everything you described certainly is possible, but unlikely to be implemented in the environment I assume you are talking about.

I know that at GM they have on their workstations have disabled USB write functions. You can completely disable USB if you wanted. Would make the computer rather useless if you ask me.

If you're talking about checking to see if someone has plugged a thumb drive into the computer, check the logs. Most of the time you should have an entry as the Auto-Run function should have run, and the drive was "installed" so a log about hardware install/uninstall should be found in there.
