Bouncing around the PCp threads.
FDSMAN: this PCp of yours is going to be awesome, when you get it put together and running.
ONE of the AMD equivalents of a P4 2.8GHz is the Athlon XP 2800+ (you can find a low voltage 50 watt version if you look hard enough). Then there is also the Athlon 64 2800+. Most AMD chips can be overclocked and underclocked quite a bit.
www.newegg.com is a good place to find that stuff.
What kind of battery are you planning on using?

cennar stop smoking whatever crap is in that pipe and realize that a shuttle motherboard is going into a different case. and if you even bothered to read the posts I have made it is going to be very light, probly as light as a 12 or 6 pack of coke (cennar not the kind of coke you think of)
if you would like to donate to my ps2p portable pm me

Food for thought, or thoughts to be consumed?
Just some things to think about:
A 12cm x 12cm mobo with 1GHz Via C3 processor. It would be capable of such games as Quake III Arena and most emulators, but little beyond that. On the other hand, it is tiny, and uses little energy to run.

FDSMAN, this is something you may find interesting. This motherboard costs quite a bit (338 dollars), but look at those incredible features! It takes the newest Pentium 4 gaming CPU's, has a PCI-Express slot for the newest video cards available, and supports DDR2- the newest type of memory available! It even supports Serial ATA! On top of all that, it is just 17cm x 17cm!

Here's a much less expensive P4 socket 478 version:
