I will you pay any modder to put a modchip in my ps2, if they are really good at it, although I might want to know the price.

With the way the Government is cracking down on people installing mod-chips, I wouldn't install them for anyone.

What he said. You're better off using one of those boot CDs. (I know the GameShark CDX can boot homebrew on the original Playstation, not sure what the PS2 equivalent is.)

Out of curiosity, why is the government cracking down on modchips?

And what does homebrew do?

And you don't have to open your system to do homebrew stuff, do you?

Free McBoot. Although I've tried a few different methods and have yet to get it working. :(

Because %90 of the people that get modchips, get them to download and burn illegal copies of games.

Homebrew are applications made by people at home, basically free cool stuff, but it voids your warranty because it can break your system.

Phat PS2 (Tried and it doesn't work on a slim)
:( I'll still try that guide anyway, but alas I'm trying to get this working on my (V12) slim.

Is there some guaranteed-to-work method that I'm missing?

I just installed a modchip in my sega saturn so I could play a burned copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga because they cost so much on ebay. Not that I'm at all scared of getting busted, but is it even really illegal? I could understand the ps2 considering the system is still alive and people still make games for it (not necessarily good ones). Anyways, with only 30,000 copies of the American Panzer Dragoon Saga and no hope for a re-release in the future would anyone really care? Just curious.

It is ALWAYS illegal to download a copyrighted game.

Now whether or not anyone cares or they will do anything about it is another matter. For anything that is not current Gen I have not heard of anyone being prosecuted for it anywhere.

So yea, downloading older games is not going to get you fined or in jail. But yea it technically is illegal.

If you have issues getting FreeMCBoot working, go with the original Independence exploit option - is the process I use, and it works just fine. The learning process can be a little rough if you're not too electronics-savvy, but the end result is worth it. I used it so I could copy my games to the hard drive; the kids tear up the discs, so it's a godsend to not have to worry about a game not working anymore. Not to mention the faster load times.

If you send me a memory card, I can install Free McBoot on it for you. It works on all PS2's and the pstwo slims except for the last few revisions I believe. It works on my slim just fine.
