E3 2005: XBOX 360: "WE WILL REACH A BILLION!"
Microsoft declares its intent for the next generation and confirms backwards compatibility
9:14 It's had more coming out parties than Elton John but last night Microsoft officially unveiled the Xbox 360 to a fairly salivating industry at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles California.
In an evening alive with bold claims and whooping Americans, a trio of Microsoft bigwigs including Robbie Bach, Peter Moore and J Allard unveiled the console again, announced that it would be backwards compatible with the current Xbox and made the boldest of claims that in the next generation they would reach a billion consumers.
How? Well after picking our jaws up from the floor after hearing such an audacious claim, the Microsoft trio confirmed that they were targeting every flavour of gamer from the hardcore to more casual players, and also wanted to involve people who would design additional content for the console, which they would be able to sell through the Xbox Live marketplace.
Freaky. *Waits for X360's to be $5 in China*. That, or this is monopoly again.

Oh that is re-gosh-darn-diculas. 1 billion???? Lemme check the calendar, nope it's May 20th not April 1st.
Not even after 15 years are there even close to billion Gameboys in existence... more like 150 million. And those don't cost $300 each.
Is this quote for real? I can't imagine someone saying or thinking something so stupid. How many Xbox 1's have sold wordlwide? 20 million? 30 maybe? Hm, that's not quite a billion last time I checked.
Once XBox 360 fails we can look back at these claims and laugh. They're already digging their own grave in the hype.... Phantom anyone?

They are definitly insane. the ps2 sold under 200million. The xbox 360 thinks it can sell 5 times that? They might sell half that, but if PS3 or NR came out at the same time they wouldnt sell a quarter of that. If the Xbox360 costs less than $100, then it will get close to 1 billion, but that aint gonna happen. I only know of two people in my grade that have an Xbox. My friend got one when it came out for christmas, and it was his only christmas present because it was so expensive. The game he got with it was Billiards! Who the heck would want a game like that. A few months later, he sold that xbox to buy a PS2 and he has that ps2 today. That shows that Sony good. Microsoft badddd

Were they trying to say itll be open source? They want homebrews, and they want people to sell it over their service? I'm sorry, but I can't see Microsoft welcoming that so graciously.
