I succeeded! Technically it's not finished yet, but It works and everything, I just haven't had time to assemble it yet. The key to getting it right on the first try is doing lots and lots and lots of research.

I'm still slowly trying to finish mine. I did most of it, but then I hit a snag and now I'm just slowly finishing it little by little.

Eh.. I'm working on a simple NES portable right now. It's nothing fancy nor do I have lots of money invested in it. I hope to have it finished tonight. Just in time for MGC
Edit: Looks like I'll be finishing it at MGC instead.

Kill list:
✔PSone board (shot flames)
✔PSone board (shot flames as well)
✔NOAC
✔NOAC
✔Gamecube
✔SNES (I got the board bare and never got it to work)
✔N64
I still have a working N64, Playstation, and 4 screens. Never have killed a screen, though.

Not on my first. I fried a couple NOACs and Hip gear screens before moving onto my PSOne Portable.

On my first portable (an NESp) I fried one NES and a PSOne screen. It got finished, though, after a very long break of about 1.5 years.
It's called the Nintendo On The Go, you can search for it if you like.
I've since made an N64 portable and am working on another. (See sig. )

Re: How many people succeeded the first time making a portable?
Murdered
- 4 GC controllers (yes the boards dont work )
- 15+ Gamecube motherboards (I wish I was exaggerating)
- 4 Gamecube daughterboards
- 1 Wii motherboard (which is being used for a great cause )
I technically finished a gamecube portable (back in November). Took me 2 weeks to make it. It had a lot of technical issues including DD failure sometimes, so I have redone everything - guts, casework, all being redesigned. Its about %50 complete since I have had to spend weeks on the case. Should be done in June or July.
