Remember Contra, Battletoads, Blaster Master? No Saves, No Passwords.. Those were the days.. Such a sense of accomplishment when you beat them..

Although.. Blaster Master eluded me.. One day I will return on some future portable that can withstand 50mph collisions with sheetrock..

Contra did have a password in the Konomi Code. While still a very difficult game, it is nigh impossible without.

I am an idiot.. I never tried the classic Konami code..

Do you remember the Konami game where you typed in the code and your ship exploded? I think it was Lifeforce.

Super Star Wars and Jurrasic Park for the super nintendo. No saves or passwords. I was so pumped when I beat super star wars for the first time this past summer.

I like the idea that people are just now beating games for 25 years ago. It's like finding a lost treasure in a far away land. I just recently beat Metriod Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy after having both for at least 2 years.
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky...

You know whats really funny? We played the worst games like 15-25 years ago and they seemed like they were made from the finest designers. Now a days a lot of games that really arent that bad are getting thrown to the curb because they "suck" or "lack originality". WTF. Games that play great and have great graphics and give you hours of gameplay ARENT BAD GAMES. Kids dont remember the Atari, NES, or SNES days where a lot of games SEEMED a lot like another game.

I got a kick out of looking up reviews of some of my favorite old games... only to find out they were trash, and that I wouldn't enjoy them.

Reviews are subjective. Reviewers play a ton of games - most games will be somewhat "derivative" in their view.

I found the best way to read reviews is this: read their reviews of games you do like. Find out what they often complain about in the reviews, and disregard that when reading about a game you don't know. For example, in games I like, reviewers often complain about it being too short. As I don't usually have a problem with the length (unless its too long), I ignore that complaint when looking at reviews.

A year ago I want to my little brothers science fair and one student interview all of the other grade schoolers to find out which console was the most popular. Almost all of the students have never even heard of an NES! And xbox 360 was the most popular.

ever play jet grind radio for dreamcast and then the remake for the xbox: jet set radio future.

good example of videogames getting dumbed down.
