It includes a complete boxed copy of Stadium Events, the rarest licensed retail NTSC NES game.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Events" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The North American, or NTSC, version of Stadium Events is universally accepted as the rarest licensed NES game available for purchase in North America.[1][2][3][4] It was recently named #6 on a list of 20 "Holy Grails of Console Gaming"[5], a list that covered all gaming systems in all countries. The reason for its rarity and subsequent high market price[6][7][8] is due to its limited production and sales.[9] At the time of its launch during the holiday season of 1987, Stadium Events was only available at Northern-region Woolworth's Department Store, which was a test market for Bandai.[10] In 1988, Nintendo purchased the North American rights to the FFF mat technology and re-released it as the Power Pad. The two Family Fun Fitness-branded games that had already been released, as well as Bandai's version of the running pad accessory, were pulled from shelves and presumed destroyed. Because of this odd sequence of events, only 2000 copies are believed to have been produced, of which it is estimated that 200 copies reached consumers before being recalled.[9] Today, collectors who follow the online sale of rare video games believe that fewer than 10 complete copies of the game exist, only one of which is factory sealed. An eBay auction of a NES console along with a copy of the game with manual and box sold in excess of $13,000 in February 2010.[11]
(Emphasis mine)

That might explain the 13 grand. :lol:

Because of how its been presented. Guy on ebay sells his games suddenly nets over $13,000.

A.They make it seem like this guy doesnt know what he's doing and just sold one of the rarest games.

B. the news outlet made it seem like he was only selling the NES.

I think it'll only increase sellers and buyers trying to squeeze every last dime out of their stock on ebay. Stories like this will be undoubtedly promoted with the half truth on ebays behalf. Sigh.

I guess if your a die hard NES collector with lots of cash to throw around then its understandable, being as its rarity is comparable to a 1990 World Championship Cartridge. But i still think its kind of pointless :P

She probably didn't know what she had. I don't see how knowing which NES games are rare is significant to the story. Things like this happen all the time with other collectibles, like a person finding some old piece of art in their attic. Just because they don't know what it is doesn't mean they don't deserve "fair market value" for their auction.

How true.

I found a stack of promotional 45 rpm records at a thrift store yesterday. The people selling the records had no idea that they were worth much. Same concept, except in m,y case I got a really good deal.

Did you see that someone else has posted the same image as the "lace_thongs35" seller had on their listing? Even the description is similar. :?

Yeah, I noticed it's gone now... geez, freaking scammers trying to make a quick buck anyway they can. Oh and BTW limpport, I like your sig! :P I used to work at RatShack years ago and what you have on there sounds about right. They were always pushing us to sell batteries and extended warranties and cell phones. I was one of the few people that actually knew something about their electronic components. :lol:
