Okay, so I had an idea that I think would be amazing...ly difficult.
I want to turn my ceiling in to a second monitor for my PC. I have 1 foot of height I can sacrifice, and my room is about 10 feet squared.
My current idea is to mount a projector on to my existing ceiling, create some light scaffolding, and project on to a large angled mirror that bounces the light 90 degrees on to a sheet, which will be my "new" ceiling.
The problem with that is it would only work for a small section of the ceiling, and I thought it would be cool if the entire thing was a rear-projection screen.
Any ideas / work-arounds? The goal is to have a screen that spans most or all of the ceiling, it does not need to use projections. All ideas or thoughts welcome.

Re: Ceiling Projection
that would be crazy. are you saying that you're so lazy that you don't want to have to get out of bed to use the computer? just kidding.
I can't think of any way besides lowering the sheet further. And there's no way to widen the output on the projector?

Re: Ceiling Projection
You may get lucky and find a lens that will do it, but with only one foot of space from the cailing, you still won't be getting a large or visible, even, picure I'm sure. Why don't you put the projector on the floor against a wall aimed at the ceiling, and then adjust the rotation and the keysone to be perfect? Would be soooo much easier.

Re: Ceiling Projection
But way less cooler. The image doesn't have to be perfect, it's going to be mainly used for winamp visualizations.
Projector + Giant Mirror + Sheet seems the most logical, but the sheet would have to be stretched tight around a frame, which could not be projected through.

Oh, I see what you are doing now. Your problem is in only one foot, the projector will not have space to make a very large image to project onto the mirror.

why don't you figure out a way to raise and lower the large frame so that when you're not using it it's up, but then lower it into position for use?

Re: Ceiling Projection
You would have to have the lens distort the picture a LOT to make it fit right at that sharp of an angle. You'd also have to find a projector that supports rear-projection mode and has a bulb bright enough to make a useful picture on the back of the sheet (or get an old rear-projection TV screen and use that).
It would probably just be easier to mount an LCD to your ceiling.

Re: Ceiling Projection
You seem to be unable to grasp the concept that there are items in between my floor and ceiling.
