Well, hi there :)

Okay… I have a confession.

I have been lurking here (in a rather obsessive manner) for nearly a week now, and I figured now would be a good time to reveal myself (lest I dwell unnoticed in a corner for the rest of eternity).

My name is amber,
I’m 17,
and I knew virtually nothing about portabalizing consoles before I found this forum!
However, I love video games—a little too much—and I learn things quickly. During my prowling, I’ve already gained comprehension of terms such as (but are by no means limited to): “soldering”, “cartage slot relocation”, and… other ones that I currently cannot recall at this particular moment in time.

Haha!

I won’t lie to you though—I am not entirely void of retro system knowledge. I already have been repairing and maintaining old videogame systems/ games and such for a good while, and hence have basic familiarity (except for all Sega systems prior to the Dreamcast, which is downright shameful, I know :(…)

I plan on buying the book as soon as humanly possible, but I was wondering where I can gain fundamental circuit board knowledge and soldering skills, etc.

I am itching to get started :)

and i apologize in advance for pestering the life out of you throughout my portablizing career.

I know the feeling. I lurked for months before joining up.

Unfortunately, I learned everything I know from browsing the seemingly limitless threads here. Also from watching youtube videos...

so you can browse around or ask a specific question and we can try to help answer it. Build logs of other members and their completed portables are a good place to start, as well. Those are in the News section and their W.I.P. threads are usually linked to from there.

Good Luck!

Hey! Welcome new benhecker!

I have some good pointers for you!

Pointer 1.) check the stickies!
Pointer 2.) Use the search button!

Most questions you can think of have been answered at one point in time or another.

WHY!? Well, for some odd reason, peeps here tend to get annoyed when a previously asked question, or something that can be answered just by checking a sticky gets asked. I really dont know why people get really annoyed, but oh well.

Enjoy and have fun! :)

Hahaha--my native language is English (the appalacian strain). Why do you ask?

I don't see any [noticeable] grammatical or spelling errors.

Perhaps the wording? It's just a bit awkward.
Oh, and there aren't any grammatical errors, but just things that we don't really say in English anymore.

Regardless, welcome!

Okay--let's not dissect my grammar  . I never did good in grammar (haha, grammar pun--"well" should be used instead of "good", right? lol--I go to a private school and reading (classic literature) and creative writing are some side hobbies if that explains anything. Rest assured, I can talk like a normal human if I so choose.

Thanks so much for welcoming me and giving me a couple of pointers though :) I truly appreciate it.
