You could always get PS3 for at least $500. People always use the $600 price point, so annoying. It would be ludicrous for me to always say the 360 is $400 since that's what the Elite costs.

So has anybody heard anything concrete on backwards compatibility, ive heard rumors that with the new firmware it will have emulated/software BC. if thats the case i very well may get one, because i really hate my PS2, plus the ps3 has some nice games too, and cheaper smaller and a 120gb hdd with bluray and HD capabilities

Pretty sure they said straight-up that they won't have backwards compatability.

If they did add it through software, it would be available on all of them through a system update, presumably.

If you have them on the disc, it'll work by just inserting the disc in the PS3, and if you bought them on the PSN, then you can sign-in to your old account on the PS3 Slim and then go to your download history and re-download them. You're only allowed to do this for 5 consoles though, so if you already did this 5 times with your account before the PS3 Slim was announced, then you might be out of luck.

Now that the PS3 Slim was announced, its possible the prices of the old PS3 will drop. So if you really are interested, keep an eye out for 60gb PS3s on ebay or locally.

If I can't play me some PS2 games, I'm not too interested. And I already own a Blu Ray player so thats not a justifiable reason either.

Most of the games I play are either multiplatform or only 360. The PS3 doesn't have enough developers to make good games IMO , considering the PS3 is the hardest system to code for. Hopefully the game selection will grow considerably by next year.

Wonder if places will knock the price down a bit or bundle a controller/game with it to sell through them?

Well the reason I said that is because the old 60gb model does have backwards compatibility (and the 20gb one too as eagle pointed out).

That's an interesting thought. I wouldn't be surprised if they started bundling these things pretty soon actually to try and clear their stock before the slim arrives.

I was debating on whether to sell my 60GB PS3 and go for a new Slim or not. I would be getting a brand new system with warranty, double the hard drive and a few other things but no backward compatibility and I don't like the looks of the Slim quite as well. What do you guys think about the new Slim?
