I've been on the lookout for a small laptop, that can still handle casual gaming. Then I saw the asus n10, I was pretty happy even with the bottle neck atom single core 1.6 ghz processor.
Luckily I haven't bought it yet. Because what I saw today is astonishing. I just hope it's not over $1200.
The asrock g22 netbook.
I don't know when it's going to be released but the specs are looking awesome. Some models are different but one has 4 gigs of ram.
Here's an article on it. http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/20 ... tbook.html
What do you think of this new netbook.
With a dual core it's going to be power hungry. But I wouldn't mind, I don't even think this counts as a netbook anymore.
Discuss.

Re: Asrock G22 Netbook
It's using the ION chipset
It will stay pretty cool since its using an Atom based CPU. It won't play Crysis, but World of Warcraft certainly
I'm guessing price will be around $650-800.

It's supposed to have a dedicated card though. Hopefully the nvidia 9300 like the n10 has. The n10 can handle most games really well considering it's processor. Even crysis ran at 15 fps on the n10. I looked up some videos of the n10 on youtube.

Re: Asrock G22 Netbook
The ION is a 9400m. Better than the 9300m and certainly more power efficient than running the Nvidia chip on top of Intel's chipset.
Still, the Atom's a dog for any actual computing. Even Intel themselves say it runs about half as fast as a mobile Celeron at the same clock speed. In-order execution FTL. But with the 9400m and the dual-core Atom, you should see better game performance than the Asus N10 (it has a single core Celeron 230) for games that can take advantage of multithreading. I wonder how it would be with the 2.0 ghz Atom z550...
However, I'd like to see more 12-13" ultraportables with the super low voltage Core 2 Duos and the 9400 chipset. Those suckers only put out 10w of heat (just 2w more than an Atom) yet can eat Atoms for breakfast. Too bad they cost $275 for a good one.
I say get it if you want, but depending on the price you might be better off with a regular laptop, as long as it doesn't just come with the GMA 950.

Yeah, I was looking at normal laptops that were just smaller in general. Of course I was looking for one with dedicated graphics. No intel 950gma for me please.

Yeah, Mobile Core 2s are expensive as hell, I know newegg sells the same chip that is in my t61p for $330. But Core 2 Power at 35w, who can complain?
It is just the Quadro 570m in it is just a complete dog at eating up the battery.
So I use Rivatuner to lower the power saver clocks.

my Everun note is still the most powerful netbook/sub-netbook laptop you can get. 1.2ghz turion X2 processor, 1gb ram and a radeon x1200 equavalent graphics chipset. its a bit battery hungry but its pocket sized and weighs 1.6lbs!

I knew you would come in here and mention the godlike Everun note.Triton wrote:my Everun note is still the most powerful netbook/sub-netbook laptop you can get. 1.2ghz turion X2 processor, 1gb ram and a radeon x1200 equavalent graphics chipset. its a bit battery hungry but its pocket sized and weighs 1.6lbs!
