It varies depending on your cognitive control. Sometimes things just don't happen when you want. Thats the crux of the subconsciousness. It doesn't always coincide with your consciousness.

I used to have no control. Then outstanding. Usually its little. Like, "Oh I'm dreaming. I can do whatever I want! C'mere I wanna say something to you BEYOTCH!!" (They sock me in the mouth)

I have complete control over my dreams.

But by controlling them usually gives you little to no rest.
So most of the time I just go with the flow.

Usually when I realize its a dream and can control it I wake up.

Last dream I had, I was playing yu-gi-oh against someone, and I drew exactly what I needed at all the right times. Then, I woke up. $5 says I won.

about every 1 in 5 nights i don't dream, it's just weird i fall asleep, then black, then morning
when i talk in my sleep i know it, usually its to someone in real life (i.e. if my brother comes in the room or i talk to my pugs)

I can have entire conversations with people and not remember it.

Grandpa: I told you this morning to mow the lawn before we got back.

me: Was I still in bed.

Grandpa: yes.

Me: I was asleep!!!

I talk in my sleep every now and then. This one still confuses me.

Grandpa: did you do all your homework

Me: yeah why?

Grandpa: you were yelling in your sleep about math problems.

You just have to train yourself.

It took me a good 5 months to be able to control it without waking up.

Oh, and my favorite thing to do when controlling my dreams is to fly.
Its so awesome.

If it's legal where you live, medical marijuana will get rid of your sleep talking or any other sleeping problems you have. Of course if it's not legal where you live, it will cause you to go insane and make you kill people and rape white women and ruin any chance of you becoming president or winning 8 Olympic gold medals.

i talk in my sleep as well.

i never realize it though. i use to have entire conversations in my sleep, but know its just mumbo jumbo. you might just phase out of it. and speaking of lucid dreaming, i have been trying to learn how to do this for about a month, but no luck. i ussually never dream. how do i dream more frequently?
