My First Ever Successful Project. (Not Electronic)

Post by lazer_174300 » Thu May 14, 2009 11:53 pm

A few days ago I was on Youtube and stumbled upon a rubber band gun video. Then I thought, "My cousin always kicks my ass when rubber bands come into play." So, I remedied that problem.

I built a rubber band gun myself. Its all balsa wood, except for 1mm plywood under the finger guard for support, and behind the notch, also for support. Paraphrase of Palmer: "dood, balsa wood sux bawls. itll break." That is not true. It is completely sturdy, and is very light, but does not feel fragile. It holds about four or five rubber bands at a time, and takes about 15 seconds to "reload."
I took pictures:

The whole album is here

It was rather fun to build. It gave me an excuse to use a disc sander, and a band saw.

This summer I plan on doing something to an NES (with help from Palmer of course since I'm going to be seeing him Monday-Friday)

Nice! I love woodworking. Making various household furniture is always fun, and when it's something functional like this, it's even better :) but balsa? that must have cost a bit eh?

Not for me at least! My dad has a box full of various sizes and shapes of balsa! I either had to choose to carve out from balsa, or fir 2x4's. I easily chose balsa.

Great. How does it work. I'm dumb.

Here's something seriously destructive.

I found that an airsoft fits quite nicely down the barrel. Unfortunately I never finished mine. It would be fun to play airsoft with just these "muskets" because I just can't keep up with the other people who always have better weapons.

oggcraft's rubberband guns are really cool. if you can understand japanese(or you're smart enough to translate the web page) they have a website with detailed instructions on how to make some of their guns. look up some of their guns on youtube.

it seems i sound like a ten year old

@Bic: That's a pretty inventive way to do rapid fire. I bet nobody wanted to play with you.

I made a "semi-automatic" rubber band gun when I was younger. I took a stake that was about a foot and a half long, and I nailed 4 clothes pins down; one for each side. I put little nails on the other end to hold the rubber bands. Just pull back a rubber band and clip it in the clothes pin, repeat 3 times, and you're ready.
Why is it that every time I post in a thread, it dies?
