Videos won't load/play until play is pressed. It's just like a Youtube embed on any other site. It wouldn't take any more bandwidth than an embedded picture would.

In any case it should be diableable, and should not automatically start playing or even loading. You should have to start it manually.
That's what the embedded videos do; they only load the player, then it loads the video when you click play.

I really don't think it is worth it. I see no problem with the way things are.

I voted maybe.

So it's clearly a 'Yay' then? Are the mods gonna talk this over?

Nah, Rickrolls really only work with links, anyways; people don't expect them then. If they're embedded, they can tell right away and it ruins the surprise.

That said, I support this. It could make things a little easier by having videos integrated into forum posts, even if there is potential for abuse. If it gets too abused, however, we could cancel it.

I have, too many times to count, in fact. Well my point is that even with every (and I mean every) red flag warning you SHOULD be getting that what your about to click is a rickroll, you're going to miss said red flag warnings and click on it. Which then follows many lol's. All-in-all just because the rickroll isn't in a link, doesn't mean palmer cant apply his rickrolling skills on you... Nuff said. Oh, and only YOU can prevent Astley fires.

Best rickroll is when you set your friends homepage to it XD

Oh, and maybe restricted to the news section, most people don't post video's outside of there.

the potential for abuse is always there. just because we could post videos, doesn't mean that we would abuse our power more. think about it. if i wanted to post something objectionable, i could post links, or pics or video, assuming it gets "legalized". it comes down to the person. if they are going to abuse their privelages, they are going to do it wether they can do it with video or not.

If we're gonna restrict sections to which we can embed videos, the Reference forum will have to be opened up as well. That was the whole reason I actually started this topic in the first place.

Personally though, I don't think there should be any restrictions as to where a video can be embedded.
