Finish your flippin' projects!

Post by Life of Brian » Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:31 am

I'm posting this topic as much for my own benefit as everyone else's. I noticed that there are a ton of "work in progress" threads, but not too many finished portables recently. How about you post your current works in progress, where you are on them, and set a goal for when you want to finish it. If you're like me some projects tend to stretch on for several months, so set a realistic goal and when you make progress come back to your post and update your status!

My projects:

Dual N64 portables
Status: Learned how the electronics work, have totally gutted one N64, haven't touched the second, and still deciding on what to do for the cases.
Goal for completion: End of summer

2nd NOAC portable
Status: ALMOST done, just need a new Super Joy 3, but those cost money...
Goal for completion: Could have it done in a day if I ever get around to ordering another SJIII, so within a few weeks I think.

Nintendo SuperBoy Rev2
Status: The once-dead-now-alive-again Retro Duo is acting flaky, so maybe it didn't come back to life as well as I had hoped. The case is completely done. Once I order a new Retro Duo I could have it done within a week. I also need some li-po batteries, so this project is getting expensive quick.
Goal for completion: I want to finish it within a month, so say end of May.

Clear SNESp (Nintendo Stupendo #2)
Status: Things are cruising along nicely. I need to figure out just how I want to mount the front and back plates to the metal siding, but aside from that I haven't run into any complications. I need to order li-po batteries for this, and that costs money. That's my only expected source of delay.
Goal for completion: With the exception of batteries, I think I can have this sucker done within a couple of weeks, so middle of May.

Go ahead! Post what your projects are, and set a goal for yourself! Hopefully this will help motivate some of you to finish your projects much like contests in the past have helped me.

Well lets see what I have that needs to be done......

Namco Portable
Status: Everything needs to be done! (Well except for gutting the Plug-n-play.) I could start wiring the Controls and test the Namco to see if it even still runs. Sill in need of a Screen.

I also have a few other ideas I want to do with it too which will take time.

Goal for completion: If all goes well, Sometime this Summer

G-MOTE Rev 1
Status:Need to fix the new wiring I did on it a few months ago. And replace the old wiring I used when I first made the G-MOTE for the One Handed Comp. And replace it with something more flexible. Possibly cut the Controller board down even smaller. Make a custom case for the Controller

Goal for completion: Hopefully towards the end of May.

Game Gear Overhual
Fix the audio Cap. Clean the system. Fix it where the system can use rechargeable batteries. Most likely do a back light mod. Possibly do a Video out Mod (if I feel like it).

Goal for completion: Just like the Namco. If all goes well, Sometime this summer.

Quick side project....

Fix the Uglyboy Advance:
Status:Got to fix the battery compartment wiring. Add a new right shoulder button depressor. Make the case look a tad bit better. (There's not much I can do to make it look better anyways )

Goal for completion: Next week

Who knows if the Namco Portable will ever become a reality? :P

Status: Designed in my head, got the PS2 and controller. Accidentally fried the screen by putting 8.7V into it (stupid PStwo power pack) but have a new screen on order.

my snesp: needs to get finished before school closes so I can show it off.

My famiclam: anyone remember this? well, I am currently redisigning this and am going to restart this.

My combo thing: I have been working on fitting a genesis, snes, nes, and any other systems I can think of, and a 7 inch dvd player screen into an old desktop computer case. Just really something to save a lot of need space in my bedroom.

Starfox 2 cart progress:
moved battery to other side of cart, removed Stunt Race FX ROM chip, and soldered half of the wires in place to the cart board. Next on the list, is to solder the second half of the wires to the board. After that I just need to solder them to the Starfox 2 ROM chip and it should be done :). Completion planned for this weekend.

Project classified:
no progress at this point, but may begin soon. Or may not. That information is classified.

pNESp: Got the screen, NOAC, controller and case, I need to do the wiring and put the finishing touches to the case

GCp: Got most of the parts, have done no work on it apart from some design sketches and concept art

I can't work on either at the moment because of exams, but I should have them done in my 3 month long summer this year 8)

Making good progress on my TurboGrafx. Got it RGB, American/Japanese modded; case back done, board reduced, rewired and working. Complete probably in next 2-3 weeks. Making v2 of Multi-Platform system for it, maybe another month. Then an N64 section, then GX4000 section. Then more...
