A great way to ward off bots is with simple HTML+CSS tricks. You create two HTML form fields named "username" and "password" and then hide them with CSS. Then you create two more fields and give them random names. The randomly-named fields will be used as the user's chosen username and password. The hidden fields will be used as spam traps: if they are filled in, the registration is rejected.

Yeah, I like that way.

From a Usability standpoint, this is the worst idea. It gives blind people the worst possible situation in terms of form signup. It works, but how will a Screenreader interpret that form?

Sorry, I'm just busy designing a site that needs to be as accessible as possible and suggestions such as these to deter spam have been annoying in this whole process. I know it would suck if I were blind and some forum decided to take advantage of an HTML standard in an annoying way.

I hate to be a downer, and I agree with you on most terms...

But:

1. You could have a hidden text blurb that explains the system to site readers, and name the password box "The real pass code enty box".

2. Not to insult, but what would blind people be doing playing video games, much less modding game systems? Blind people+soldering iron= Terrible, terrible things.

Just saw a thread in the news(EDIT: several other forums too) that DEFINITELY needs to be dealt with! No mods are on right now, as well as it contains objectionable content!

Current system sucks, I'd say, this seems like it should be more concerning.

Yes. (This was on another forum after we updated the software but not our security system.) Fortunately our dedicated mods deleted them almost instantly.
