Doom 1/2 Sprite Editing help...
Moderator:Moderators
I am trying to edit the weapon sprites/graphics from Doom 2 but I cannot seem to figure it out. I know that Vista has a lot of capatability issues with these older editing programs. I have tried all the editing programs I could find but it just does not work. If anyone knows of any tutorials or modern programs please let me know. Thank you

Try either XWE or Wintex. I'd recommend Wintex.
If Vista has a problem with that, you may be up a creek.

I've actually tried those two programs. Do you know of any step-by-step tutorials on how to use them with Doom 2? Maybe I am doing something wrong but I get errors everytime I try to use them. XWE seems that it works when I replace the textures but it does not take effect and actually makes the game lag a bit. WinTex tells me that I can not edit the main Wad.

What you need to do is export them to their own separate wad and edit them that way. You should have no problems after that!

Can you explain how to exactly do that? Or at least point me to a site that has a step-by-step?

My friend has an XP window on his vista boot. It might be worth finding one of those.
Hey, sup?

Do you mean Dual Boot? Or running XP from within Vista?

Tough to tell from the wording but I think he's talking about an XP virtual machine.Positron wrote:Do you mean Dual Boot? Or running XP from within Vista?
Re: Doom 1/2 Sprite Editing help...
It's been a long, long, long, long, LONG time since I've done sprite editing for Doom - I started my own modifications back in 1994, but I quit doing much in the way of graphics around 1998/1999. There should be an option somewhere to export selected attributes to an external pwad (iwad? Don't remember.) Once you do that, one of those two programs will let you edit THAT file, and then you can use that .wad file as a sort of patch by using -file filename.wad in your command line for Doom. Unless you're using something like zDaemon (which I would imagine you would almost have to, running Vista,)
