Circuit City may not be dead after all

Well, well. Circuit City went down in flames and the last stores shut their doors weeks ago. However, the brand might not be entirely dead. Check out CircuitCity.com:

CircuitCity.com is also temporarily closed, although we anticipate the website will reopen in the coming weeks. Please check back for updates.

So yeah, it looks like Circuit City might rise from the ashes just like CompUSA. Too bad this doesn’t mean that 30,000 employees will get their jobs back as the website - if the statement ever pans out - will probably be ran by only a few folks. More as we get it.
Why didn't they just do this in the first place??? At least they are somewhat still alive. But I wonder how long they will last as a online Retailer.

Who knows if the Namco Portable will ever become a reality? :P

CompUSA was more tiger Direct bought the name than opening back up.

The ones in Canada are staying open, so I don't really see what the big deal is :?

This is looking more and more likely.

Systemax (parent company of Tiger Direct, CompUSA, and other tech brands) just bought Circuit City's branding (name, image, etc) and website for under $7 million.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/13/syst ... main-name/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ironic, since the former CompUSA and former Circuit City in my town are basically right across the street from each other and always competed over the same customer base.

so does this mean there's a chance of the stores re-opening?

Maybe, but it won't be the same store.

Relatedlyly, apparently Bell owns The Source now. It's probably been posted already somewhere.

It's baaaaaaaaack...

(Well, it will be in a few days.)

5 pretend dollars says it's another TigerDirect front, like CompUSA.

and same day shipping, starting at $1.99
Since systemax bought them, I can guarantee you that it will be. I will even bet $50 real dollars.

It would be nice if they re-opened some retail stores, to give ol' Worst Buy some competition. Even if they were fairly spread out, it would be better than their Tiger Direct outlets (2 in Virginia) and CompUSA stores (a few in Florida and Puerto Rico). It's frustrating because the nearest Micro Center to me is well over an hour away, and the nearest Fry's is halfway across the country.

Yeah, other than the front page, it's Tigerdirect.
