anyone else noticing massive slowdown?

Post by eagle5953 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 8:41 am

Hey, are the forums responding slowly for anyone else? I don't know if it's on my end of things or just a temporary hickup or what...

There doesn't seem to be more people on than usual, which is the usual cause of this sort of thing - typically a few days after the release of a well-publicised portable, like Sifuf's N64 just after Christmas.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. Each page is taking a lot longer than usual to load up. I just figured it was my internet connection being dumb...

Yeah, it's so slow I thought I wouldn't be able to post this reply.

When did I revert to a dial-up connection?

OK, so it's a server-side issue. Good to know. Hopefully, it is only temporary.

it is because Ben just made a Commodore 64 laptop, and it got on Engadget.

Which means, of course, that the series of tubes re-aligns itself to all flow right into the main server. At the same time.

This happens from time to time, same thing with the Darksiders 360 laptop.

Oh, right - I forgot that his main page would run off the same server. I had only checked the main forums page to see the number of people who were accessing the forums at that point.

So this should just die down in a day or two then, hmm?

Hey, Engadget is not the only major Video game/Technology site which Ben's C64 Laptop got on. It also made it's way to Kotaku. Here's the link: http://kotaku.com/5199660/if-only-there ... 64-laptops

Who knows if the Namco Portable will ever become a reality? :P

You haven't seen "massive slowdown" yet.

When I first joined, the forums are so slow as if you literally take a 28.8K dialup and let 10 people share it. It's THAT slow.

Go call the plumber. Anyone else think we should buy ben another server, one for the main page and one for the forums? :D

That would be unnecessary. Remember this is a dedicated server, which isn't the $3/mo shared crap you see slung everywhere. (The actual monthly price is probably something like 80x that.) It's a lot beefier. Like Aguiluz said, back in '06-'07 it was really bad; basically any completed project announced on the front page took the site down completely.

SS, you should know that. :P (But this is mainly for all the '08-ers in here, who have only seen the fast dedicated box.)
