My bad. Like I said though, it was a memory thing on my part. Thanks for proving me wrong. I'll edit my post on that.eagle5953 wrote:Erm, Halo and Oddworld were both launch titles for XBox in 2001.HBN wrote:The XBOX did have better graphics. It also came out AFTER the PS2. By years. However, all I can say game wise for the original XBOX is Oddworld and Halo. Both of which took a while to come out (If memory serves).

I acknowledge your point.
Technologically the PS2 is way beyond what the NES was. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Much like why a lot of people can't understand what games were back 15 plus years ago have these retro ghouls like myself can't wrap there heads around some of the newest stuff. I have everything and if I had my druthers, I'd have everything hooked back up in a delicious gamer dungeon were any console is but a button press away. I have all the newest systems, and let me tell you, sometime the technology and complexity dont play nicely. A game has to be fun to play. Because it has shiny, cutting edge graphics, and edgy soundtrack isn't going to make up for the fact that it sucks. Case in point. Sonic. Loved that game to death on the Genesis. The one that I bought for my PS3; crap. Looks nice, but thats about it.
Basically its the sames as trying to debate which is better, Wii, PS3, or 360. Its totally up to you. That game you want to play is going to be on one of those systems. But is that system better? Only to you.
Technologically I wasn't impressed by the ps2, but I still bought and played it and many of the games felt like an excuse just to have graphics. NO story, no depth, no pick up and play. I don't need to be taught to play a game, and a game shouldn't have to teach you how complex the controls are, sometime needlessly. I mean look at the tech demo for the ps2 (if any one remembers) Everyone was in awe and the video was distributed like cocaine on the net.
EVERYONE:Look at the real time reflections! Check out the surfaces! Imagine what the games will be like!
Me: Its a bathtub....With a rubber duck....that you can fill or drain....wow....can't wait.
Miyamoto's tech demo for the Gamecube was far more impressive by dropping 128 marios in realtime and having them all interact.
Yes, if you are look for your answer. Yes the NES sucks with its horrible 8 bit graphics and dodgey collision. Go watch AVGN and you'll see.
To the Rest of us, its a crown jewel of any collection with its memorable games and franchises that help sculpt what people today consider gaming. I mean, theses games actually had a point and a true ending.
To ask a question of that magnitude without realizing the sheer amount of history and disregard for the average gamer...
This is why people collect of baseball cards instead of just buying new ones. Why people restore old autos instead of buying a new one. Collect Vinyls instead of going to itunes and downloading. Just because something is newer, faster, sleeker, doesn't make it better.

Another thing I don't like about modern gaming (and movies, now): SEQUELS. It can ruin even the greatest of games. If I ever made games, I'd leave questions unanswered. It just leaves more to the imagination, and often times, that's much better than what the sequel's writers came up with.

They only make sequels to make cash. Same reason that good movies now turn into TV shows. Make money. Don't forget book sequels either. Dune was an amazing book, but Dune: Messia was terrible. Turned me away from the entire series.Kurt_ wrote:Another thing I don't like about modern gaming (and movies, now): SEQUELS. It can ruin even the greatest of games.
