The best deal I ever got on a video game was this:
I was looking for a game for a friend for his birthday. I found one I thought he'd like, but before I gave it to him, I found out he already had it for PC. I was rather frustrated (as I had paid $15 for it), and it was too late to return, so it was lost for a while.
A few years later (about a year ago), I came across it again. I very nearly opened it and played it myself, but first I thought to check on eBay to see if it was worth anything. It was.
So I still have a factory sealed copy of Final Fantasy VII for Playstation. As a 'green label' Greatest Hits, it'd probably fetch around $200. Not too shabby for a ShopKo clearance...

I got 2 working PSX's and a PS1 Arcade Stick all for $1 two years ago from a yard sale. One of the PSX's was even chipped. The PSX's came with no Cables though. But I had them cables already so it didn't matter.

Eh, I got a snes mini with 5 games yesturday for $5.
Yet, I'm selling it this weekened for $25. (Sure, Its worth a lot more. But not a lot of people want to pay like $40 for a snes mini with 5 crappy games. So, I thought I'd be nice and let it go for cheap.)

A SNES, all the hookups, two controllers, and eight games including "Super Mario All-Stars," "Super Street Fighter II Turbo," and a copy of "Mario Paint" (which included the mouse), and a video switcher box: Free. I ended up giving most of that SNES stuff to my little sister, except for "All-Stars" and "Super Street Fighter II." The switcher was identical to one I bought at Wal-Mart on clearance for $10. All that stuff was just sitting on a blanket in their driveway with a sign that said "free." I also bought a PlayStation (not a PSone) with two controllers (one was a grey Dualshock, the other one was a black non-analog Sony controller), a Sony-brand memory card, all the hookups, and a Goldeneye cheat device that allows you to play burned games, for just $5 from the same guys.
That was a sweet haul.

Awesome deals so far!
Another, more recent great grab: I snagged 5 factory-sealed copies of Fable (original, not re-release) for $1.50 each on clearance at ShopKo, I think. And they're selling for ~$18 apiece on eBay...

Oh, yeah, that reminds me, I also got the original "Half-Life" when Steam had it on sale for $0.98. And you know the weirdest part? I just happened to enter "Half-Life" into Wikipedia that day, and that's how I found out about the sale. If I hadn't browsed to Wikipedia, I would have missed out completely.bicostp wrote:Bioshock for $5 off Steam during their post-holiday sale.

I got a grey Playstation (Not the PSone. This is a Playstation 1.) for $2. It has never been played once, and its the last model of the BIG Playstations. Gotta love it.

Re: What's the best deal you ever got on a video game?
One time I bought a 360 with the RROD like a year after it came out from a guy for $40. He gave me one wireless and one wired controller, a broken hard drive and two games with it. I opened it up just to look inside and decided I couldn't fix it since it wasn't visibly obvious what was wrong (I was an idiot). I sold the games and the broken hard drive, kept the controllers and gave the system to my friend who was going to have his brother's friend repair it. A week later Microsoft announced that they were extending the repair warranty for any 360 that had the RROD to three years. Needless to say my friend got them to repair it even though the warranty sticker was gone. So in the end my friend got a free Xbox and I got two controllers for cheap, plus made back some money that I spent selling the games.
I also bought a used 360 from my friend before Christmas. He gave me the console, the Component HD cable, and a power brick for $20 when I offered him $40 for the setup.
The problem with it was that the graphics displayed a ton of artifacts and Gears of War 2 had certain textures replaced when you played (almost all of the textures when the system ran longer and got hotter). The textures were blotches of green red and yellow clusters which looked like salad, thus the box came to be known as "The Salad." I sent in in to Microsoft for repairs saying it had the RROD when it didn't just because it was out of warranty. It took them a month from the time I filed for the repair but they sent it back to me and it works perfectly now.
tl:dr I got really lucky with used Xbox 360 systems

I'm jealous. I think I'm going to buy it myself because my girlfriend gets tired of borrowing me her copy.bicostp wrote:Bioshock for $5 off Steam during their post-holiday sale.
