You don't need high school to do what Ben does. If you really want to be great, drop out of school and self teach yourself everything. Honestly. But unless you can/would actually learn and things, stay in school, don't do drugs, blah blah etc.

I can't think of any classes other than maybe electronics courses that will teach you to be a hardware modder. In all honesty, it's one of those things you've got to love to do. You've got to have a natural curiosity about how and why things work, and the inclination to try and figure it out. And so on...

As far as classes, go for science, math, and classes such as welding, mechanics, electronics- the logic and hands-on courses. Keep yourself and your mind busy, don't do drugs, stay positive.

And no, I'm not that Ben. :P But this is what I would recommend to somebody who has a love for things mechanical and electrical in nature, and a yearning to understand them better.

electrical engineer comes kinda close, except on a much higher level (designing instead of modding, but if you can design, you can mod. In fact, you could become some sort of super modder!)
it's also a great paid job

nothing in high school will really help with hardware modification, really, except maybe if they have a shop class that works with fun tools

in germany I had this class called "Natur und technik" (nature and technique) from 7 to 10, where we would build and solder circuits and learn about electronic components

Most schools in the US lack those kinds of classes... And people wonder why other countries are taking all of out tech jobs.

I'm pretty sure you guys have a different style of schooling in Germany. Don't you have a sort of two-school system where kids are divided up into either a trade school or a school preparing you for Uni?

Yeah, you gotta wanna do it. I do and you learn along the way. I'm pretty much striving to be an EE.
