So, I just finished reading John Lacarre's The Constant Gardener (amazing book BTW) and now I'm in need of a new read! I love political-style novels as well as surreal type novels and adventure, sci-fi, etc.
So let's have it people! Share some great reads!

Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising
a stand along book, has nothing to do with the rest of his books. basically, its a theoretical WWIII situation started by Soviet Russia after some islamic terrorists destroy a production facility of some sort. follows the war from many different lines, including the politics of war. great read.

The Halo series is pretty good (I've read the first three). If you're into the games, then you must read the books to fully understand the story. Even if you don't like the games, you could still find them interesting. I like the games, but I'd rather read the books.
Something I want to do is read the books that movies are based on, such as Jumper and I am Legend. The books are usually much better than the films that are based on them, such as the Harry Potter and LotR series.

I'm currently reading The Ashes of Worlds, which is the seventh book in The Saga of Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson. I's sci-fi, but has a lot of political themes and sub plots. My favorite part is that there's a ton of characters and each chapter is from the perspective of a different one so you see how events are unfolding across the galaxy from a number of different perspectives.

I'm a fan of all dystopian future type books, my favorites being Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell and my personal favorite, Atlas Shrugged by none other than Ayn Rand. If you're interested in politics, history, social progression, and most importantly, ideologies of Socialism and Communism, they're all great books. You really have to read beyond the story, though, and put the story in the context of history and the time it was written, even the written opinions of the author.
Though Atlas Shrugged is one of the largest books in the English language, it's extremely powerful.
Possibly considered political wrote:MUST READS include Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg, The China Threat by Bill Gertz, and See No Evil by Robert Baer. The first two are definitely political (though historically factual), and the latter is written by an ex-CIA case officer who witnessed the great demise of the Agency at the hands of bureaucracy. Anyways, yeah.

Along a similar vein is the Song of Ice and Fire series by George Martin. It's fantasy for people who don't read fantasy, if that makes sense. Some parts are pretty mature, the intrigue between royal houses is compelling, and each chapter is from a different character's viewpoint. The first book in the series is A Game of Thrones.Black Six wrote:I'm currently reading The Ashes of Worlds, which is the seventh book in The Saga of Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson.
