Some days I just wish I could go back in time and stop a lot of these advancements from happening but I really can't. Putting it plainly, graphics have ruined the gaming market, because it's not about the games anymore. Go back to the SNES or something, please! Why is it that the SNES has some of the best games ever made, and crappy current consoles get all the rage? Back then, it wasn't about who had the flashiest graphics, but about who could use what they had to make the best games. And developers that worked on SNES games did a great job with that.
You know, it all ties in to this "Gamer" market. If only, if only we could just get rid of this "Gamer" market. It's all casual, you know. It's like, that people say that the casual gamers are the kids on the wii's but that's total crap, the "gamer" people are all on their xbox's and ps3's and whatnot. Not I'm not discrediting the systems, but come on, somebody else has got to notice this stuff going on around them. That's really what annoys the heck out of me, is these new gamers that rant and rave about new games that suck that have amazing graphics. This kind of stupidity ruins the video game market, and I just hope and pray that someday the technological advances finally reach a halt as far as graphics go and finally the winning strategy to come out on top of the video game market will ONLY by about the games, and not about flashy ads, gimmicks, and graphics.
I think Nintendo has looked at that whole technological advancement thing, and said "here is where we draw the line". But a lot of hardcore nintendo fans are still left saying that this isin't going far enough. When the competition's got amazing PC like graphics, and Nintendo's lacking of such is causing loss in the competition, even Nintendo fans think that something's got to be done to keep up with the other companies standards.
I say, forget it all. I don't care about how everybody wants to say how they're "gamers" now. It annoys me but I can live with it. And I don't even care so much about how everybody else I know all owns their 360's and they're sucked in to all the fads like halo 3 and guitar hero. But what I'm most frustrated with, is that I'm sitting on a decent gaming PC playing TF2 and Counterstrike, not to mention a bunch of really good older games, with strangers, cause all the video game playing people I know are just too casual to really look at a game for it's gameplay rather than its graphics.
The SNES is the best console ever made, and the PC is the best thing to ever happen to gaming.
That's what I liked really. Like, the competition among hard core PC gamers to get the best hardware, and for the latest games. I actually like that competition, because for a while, PC games have been really good! And with the updates in graphics, games have only gotten better. But with this new "gamer" market, the competition is totally different. It's not competition between players and other players, (as in, who's got the cooler gaming rig, got the latest hit shooters) but now the competition has left the players hands, and is being fought by the rivaling companies over your cash.
I said too much, and it's totally not about the nintendo hand held, but when people keep bringing up the current status of video games, I just keep getting so frustrated with how things are going, that I have to say something.
Just some of my thoughts and ramblings,
-Bert.
(Oh, and Earthbound wins #1 on most wanted on virtual console, and Mother wins number 2. Eat that IGN, haters.)
