I will add photos of all the parts as i get them in. Also any idea on what the case should be made out of. I have no idea how to make a case.

Thats the site thank you. Batterys are hard for me to understand in this project.

Should i wate untill a get all the parts and then find out how much power i will need to drive all this.

The picoPSU-120 takes in 12v so i will need a battery the outputs 12v i don't know about the mAh.

And i didn't know i would need a PCB for the battery.

So what sould i do first?

Get all the parts and find out how much power i need.

Or

Get the battery and PCB now ?

If i need to get it now i have no idea what to get.

i am doing this becasue i want to.
Are you sure?

IF you are, do you know what you'll be using it for? Do you really need 40GB of hard drive space and 1GB of ram? Do you really need a usb cam and bluetooth connection? Why buy wireless N when you can get previous generation technology much cheaper? I know you said you weren't doing this to save money, but why spend so much more money then you have to?

All good quistion I makeing this becasue i always wanted to do somthing like this. The 40gb hd becasue i didn't want to got with a 20 and 60 was to big.

The 1gb of ram is becasue it's cheap. The wireless n is to i can stream the movies with out pluging in to the lan. The cam becasue i alwasy wanted one. bluetooth is if i want to use a mouse or keyboard and for my cell phone.

And also again because i want to. If i want to save money i wouldn't do a lot of this stuff. but this is a fun project to do so why not add some nice stuff.

And and most of this is USB so what i plan to add in the case is a easy why to plug and unplug all usb things. and not have it hanging off the case I have 3 kids they will want to play with this computer.

Um...

Why are you going about it this way? It's going to be a huge, heavy power hog. (Remember, none of those components appear to have been designed to run on batteries... or be completely portable.) All together it will probably pull more than 2500mA, especially if the screen has the original backlight. (So a 2500mAh battery will run less than one hour.)

A Lifebook or Eee 900 would be a more suitable option. :|

As for your battery question, you're going to need 12 volts for the power supply. You're also going to need a high capacity battery, especially if you want to get any amount of productive runtime out of it.

Coming from a guy in a community like this, Bic, this surprises me. :P My explanation as to why would be "because he can". I mean, look at us. Sure, it's far more efficient to run emulators on handhelds like the PSP, DS, GP2x, etc., but we're still here crankin' out portablized versions of old consoles, not because they're better than what's already available on the market, but because it's fun and we like building stuff.

Just my two cents.

The consoles can't run windows but this one can so this is a good idea.
Seriously, a console is for home use but it is portablized for fun factor.

I am yet to make a portable...

Too bad I got permabanned from it. The "administration" was reading private messages and I freaked out. I got fired from being a moderator and banned.

He said he wanted to build an "Ultra Mobile PC", and I assumed he wanted to use it as an everyday word processor / web browser. (After all, a 1 gig VIA processor with integrated graphics doesn't get you much in the way of gaming, unless you happen to be a Puzzle Pirates or Diner Dash aficionado. ;)) And no offense but I wouldn't exactly call a Mini-ITX based homemade laptop "ultra mobile", especially if it's going to have batteries that last longer than 20 minutes.

There's a big difference between consoles and PCs when it comes to portablizing. (Consoles generally run cooler and draw much less power, and of course most don't require a keyboard and mouse...)

I'm not saying he shouldn't build one, I'm saying he shouldn't build one and expect it to be a practical machine he'd want to live with every day.

Besides, hasn't the general consensus around here regarding PCps always been "just get a real laptop"? :P

Good luck. As for a battery, get a 12Volt external Li-ion/Li-Poly battery pack intended to power a portable DVD player. You get the charger, etc. that way easily, and it should only cost $120 or so (based on prices the last time I checked) for a decent capacity battery pack.

Yes it's MUCH easy to go get a netbook but i want to do this. It's not going to be small or light but so what.

Why do laptop have small battery ?

I would like about 1 to 2 hours of battery life.

I now both need 12v but how do i find out the total mA ?

I saw a mac mini that a guy made in to a portable. I want to make on for this.

It should power it, as for how long, I have no idea. My guess would be at least an hour and a half.
