Would like some information from our Australian members.

Post by khaag » Wed Apr 30, 2008 11:50 pm

This is obviously directed to our Australian members, but if anyone else knows the answers to these questions it will be greatly appreciated:

* What is the age required for getting your driver's license?
* What is minimum wage?
* What is the job demand like?

I ask becuase I'm going to be applying for my working visa in the next little while and I would like to know some details about Australia before I go there.

Thanks
Khaag

Why would you want to drive all the way there just to work, it would cost more money then you would make just for the daily commute.

Minimum age for getting a drivers license is 16 (1.5months to go). One year on Ls where you have to be supervised and 3 years of p plates. You can get an equivelant license to the one you have now as long as you're old enough to have gotten it normally. EG you can't get a full license until you're 20(Think that last part is true).

Cant answer for job demand and min. wage.

Anyway Australia is great. I used to live on a boat and we sailed the east coast for a few years. So much fun but no internet.

Correction, I am pretty sure it would be hard to drive to :-P

I'm not from Australia, but I did a lil research.

As far as driving age, it's anywhere from 16 to 18 depending on what state you're in.

Minimum wage again depends on where you are, and your age, but is somewhere around 7$.

As far as job demand goes, it is almost impossible to generalize a whole contenent :-P. You would have to look up the select area you plan to go to.

Hope this helps! :-)

You guys must have saved up for a while to be able to live off nothing for a few years. I can't imagine anyone had a job while living on a boat.

No electricity bill because of solar panels, very little fuel bills because we mostly sailed. Food was our only cost and we didn't eat extravegantly.

I thought it was 120 hours 20 which are nighttime, but theres no time limit.
from my experience the demand is for skilled labours like engineers and such.

* What is the age required for getting your driver's license?
16yr to get a learner licence (you need someone who has a full licence will you all the time) you can then get a full licence when you turn 18 (some states might give it to you at 17)

Also at 18 u can legally drink ;)

* What is minimum wage?
I'm not sure if i am getting this straight but i don't believe there is a universal minimum wage it's different depending on the career i believe but working at a supermarket is $14 to $15 same as handline work also data entry jobs can range from $15 to $20 an hour

* What is the job demand like?
again depends on the field you wanna work in but there are always jobs out there

(Que the American) Even though I don't live in Australia Khagg. I would think that the Australia Zoo and Ayers Rock would be cool too see. There's also bridge in Sydney that that give tours of. And you actually get to hike up to the top of the bridge. And Then hike down the other side of it. If I went to Australia Khagg. Those would be some of the things I would see and do.

The opera house in Sidney would likely be worth at least getting a close look at.

The REEF, you should go to the REEF!

Well Ayers Rock and the Great Barrier Reef are indeed high up on the list of things to do. I wouldn't mind visiting Steve Irwin's zoo either. I know for a fact that I'm going to be doing a LOT of surfing, a LOT of fishing, and a LOT of hiking.
