controller damage

Post by 17daysolderthannes » Mon Jan 21, 2008 11:48 am

what's the worst damage you've dealt to your controller while playing a game. In other words, not throwing or otherwise externally damaging your controller (leaving it in the rain or a dusty closet, etc). I'm simply wondering what is the worst people have had happen while using their controller in terms of functionality and overall damage. Ever snap off a joystick? hit a button so hard you cracked the main chip? I've always seen controllers at store displays missing joysticks, buttons, etc. and always wondered if any of that stuff ever happened to people at home.

I think most of us here respect our systems and controllers enough (and don't have money for new ones) that you won't get much more than minor cracks and the likes. Except in the case of the angry german kid over here /\

WHY WON'T IT LOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I broke a PS2 controller. I wouldn't dare damage a 360 controller though, those things cost a bomb

Same. Its a game, ripping your controller in half isn't gonna help you win, it'll just cost you.

You broke a controller in half? How?

Oh, I wrecked a Power Player Super Joy III. I was playing pinball when the phone rang. I put the controller down on a "chairside" table that did not exist. (Somehow, my mind remembers things that are not there. Weird.) Dropped the unit and the batteries somehow shorted the unit out. Internal PCBs - including the NOAC - are toast.

I also broke a tv (CRT, 14 inch) by dumbly tripping over the power cord while rushing to answer the damn telephone. The sound was like - BOM-WHASSSSHHH!!! and some electric sparks. Heh, good thing that TV was just junk salvaged. :?

I also damaged my gameboy original (yea, the green screen) by playing tetris on the bath tub. You know what happened next. Unit works about a day's worth of drying, but the buttons won't give a darn.

Stepmania + Southern Cross = busted key. Other than that most of my stuff is in good condition with the exception of having paint on my genesis from painting a basement.

I was frustrated because I had just played a lot of FF VII and suddenly BOOM, the power goes out just as I am Saving. Not only did I lose my progress for the day, I corrupted my save so I busted my PS1 controller over my knee.

OuCh!!! Over your knee?

But yeah, I can see why that would be frustrating. Games like that are hella boring to play again.

well, that gives me a little faith then, I was always worried that sooner or later something would just "give out" so i was wondering if I should buy 1 or 2 extra controllers for my systems. None of my controllers have worn out, not really even close, the worst I have is that my PS2 controllers will sometimes suddenly not be recognized and I have to move the plug a little, but thats about as bad as it gets. I just always wondered how kids would break the PS2 joysticks to where they wouldn't even center anymore and even one time I saw an N64 joystick broken off COMPLETELY after it had been stuck to where it wouldn't go forward past halfway. I guess someone finally tried to force it and SNAP. I really hate people that just bash controllers at those demo units, just because it doesn't belong to you doesn't mean you have to treat it like crap.
