Yes and no, my Anschutz 1814 (model number not year) is a target rifle, for use in that sport, period. Quite frankly, it would make a terrible weapon or hunting implement, it is much to large, much to slow, much, much to heavy, fairly fragile, fires a non combat round, and its iron sights are useless for shooting basically anything that isn't nailed down at specific ranges. It's built for one thing: Accuracy.

Ah yes america, the only land where you can find a free AK-47 in your cereal
if you think that sort of gun is easy and or cheap to get in the united states you are dead wrong! up until about 3-4 years ago it was illeagal to own a weapon with a clip greater than 10 rounds (because of the high capacity magazine ban) you couldnt buy em or anything, its EXTREMELY expensive and hard to get a class 3 ownership permit (fully automatic weapons, the permit costs thousands and you have to get full background checks from fbi etc) that and assualt weapons here arent cheap, sks will run 200-400$ easily AKs are in the 500$ range or more depending on manufacture and quality. my friends ar-15 probably cost him 1500$

getting weapons in europe (and england etc) is a different story, their gun laws are insane!

I love guns. I've shot all kinds of rifles and shotguns, but don't own any yet. When I move out of my parents house I'm getting one. To anyone who's against gun ownership: If I want to be able to defend myself, I should be allowed to defend myself. That's a right, not a privilage. They're also just fun to shoot.

It is killing, you should at least have some respect for that (I too support hunting, but pure sport hunting is stupid). Only pests can be blasted without any remorse.

Here is a list of firearms in my house.
Shotguns
2x 12 gauge
1x 20 gauge

Rifles
1x 7mm mag
2x .30-06
~7x .22

Handguns
1x 9mm
1x .38 special
1x .22

Most receive use once or twice a year for target shooting. We hunt a little bit (once a year or less).

Killing is killing. When you wash your hands, you're killing bacteria. Getting over a cold, killing viruses. Killing bugs in your basement is killing. It's all a matter of how desensitized to killing and violence you are.

That's kind of bending it a little bit though. Thats like saying the PS3 isn't a video game console because it plays blu ray discs and can be used for that weird human genome decoding project (or whatever that riff raff was). At its core, its still a video game console, even if you never put a game in it, much the same as a gun is designed to kill, even if it is never pointed at a human target. That gun is a specialized one ADAPTED to sports, but, like the PS3 is a gaming machine that plays blu rays, a gun is a killing machine that can be used for sport.

SAVE the BACTERIAZZZZ!!!1!!

it all goes back to the basic premise of society. Society couldn't exist if we could willingly kill each other with no penalty. So, basically, killing that aids our survival is considered acceptable (bacteria, livestock, wild game, pests/rodents/varmints) and killing that detracts from it (humans, pets, work animals like horses) is considered bad. Unless you let religious factions or PETA get involved, thats usually what acceptable killing vs. unacceptable killing boils down to.

also, in a side note, Viruses are said not to be alive, yeah, trippy.

Reminds me of this image (Warning: Lots of Dead things!)

And yeah, I was gonna add that killing viruses is actually killing your own cells. (They're just re-programmed)

No you completely missed the point of the post, it is nothing more than a somewhat dangerous sporting implement, just like a baseball bat or a lacrosse stick; Yes I can kill things with all three with relative ease compared to with the use of my bare hands, but none of them are intended to be used as weapons.

Perhaps without having handled one you miss the completeness of its conversion from warmaking device into sporting good. It is downright unwieldy, it can only be effectively fired when it is strapped to the shooter with a special sling to support its weight, moving effectively with it would be near impossible, rounds are loaded manually into the chamber one by one.

I've got some classics. I have a 1958 Browning Sweet Sixteen 16ga shotgun. 16 guage is my favorite shotgun shell of all time, It seems to be the perfect balance for all uses (I am a hunter, deer and birds mostly). I'll post some pics in a bit. Back in the 70's my grandpa had it stored in a damp place and it rusted pretty badly, the finish had to be completely sanded off, so very little of the original lettering and designs imprinted on the side can be seen. You can still faintly read Sweet Sixteen. It's kinda sad that it happened, this gun would be worth near $1,000 in the collectors market. I wouldn't sell it though, It's my favorite gun out of my collection. In the 60's it was also in a fire. My dad's house burned down and the stock of the gun was charred, but the gun survived. The stock was replaced, but the original Ivory butt plate survived also.

I also have a 1952 Remington 12ga. It's in better condition but it isn't any special model so it really doesn't have much collectors value.

Ahh thats the best part.

<-Owns a Hunting/Fishing License

Guns I have shot
.30.06 Bolt action rifle (scoped)
.22 Semi auto rifle (really fun gun to shoot)
9mm Semi auto handgun
.45 Revolver
M1 Garand
Red Rider BB gun (first gun I ever shot)
12 Gauge pump shotgun
20 Gauge pump shotgun
NES Zapper

Killed Deer, pigs, and virtual ducks. I don't like duck hunting in real life as I suck at it. Oh by the way we dress (fancy way of saying gutting/skinning) our own killings.
well, its hard to escape the fact that, at their core, guns were designed to kill
Yep they were and you know what I don't care one bit.

LOL! don't worry, I don't have anything against hunting, I would probably do it myself if I enjoyed waking up at 4 in the morning to sit in mosquito infested mud and wait for 5 hours for an animal to come by so I would have something to do. Also, agreed, fried chicken is good.

NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!!11one!!one1!

I remember you are the guy that said you recovered a computer by soaking it in alcohol, you think that would work on the lower portion of the chip from my super gameboy? Theres just enough corrosion near the bottom to keep the super fx-like pins from working and I'm pretty much out of ideas. If you're wondering, it was given to me, I would never let anything of mine be so neglected, especially something electronic.

I support guns, and the owning of guns legally. If you could not own a gun legally then the criminals would still have guns to shoot you with and you could not do crap because then you would be breaking the law.

Also .22's are copulate sweet because the ammo is so cheap. My parents had one but they sold it a few years ago. >_<

Still have a box of ammo for it somewhere lol.
