That doesn't make sense. The Touch is the iPhone without the phone, same software, same screen, same everything but the lack of phone and shiny trim.Edutainment wrote:I heard iPhone was good for browsing, but that iPod Touch wasn't so good. I don't know the details.
I was thinking of getting a iPod touch, should I do it?

The only reason I can think of is that there's no EDGE in the Touch. But as long as you have Wi-Fi, you should be good.bicostp wrote:That doesn't make sense. Why would the Eee be your only other option? For $400 on ebay, you could get a pretty nice laptop, just get one with a 12-13" screen if you want something smallish.Dr. KillGood wrote:So should I get one, I mean if I got a laptop it would only be for surfing the internet and maybe You Tube and a cheap laptop is still $400 with a 4GB HDD)VS a iPod touch with a 8GB HDD.

The apps i have:
Safari: Good. Web browsing good.
-Mail (from iPhone): Simple, but fast, and works very well with my Gmail account.
-Calendar: Yay, dates...?
-Contacts: ...
-MobileChat: Nice! Works well with AIM, MSN, and Yahoo.
-YouTube: Nice and simple viewer.
-Stocks (from iPhone): Couldn't care less!
-Weather (from iPhone): More useful than it sounds.
-Calculator: Yay?
-Notes (from iPhone): A good notetaking app with some cool visuals and an emailing feature.
-Books: a good solid ebook reader.
-Google Maps (from iPhone): This is sex, in an app.
-Settings: ..............
-Finder: Good for file management.
-SMBprefs: Lets you configure themes and icons.
-Installer: the jesus of the iPone or iPod. Gives you access to so many apps.
-NikoTalkie: Only useful if you make a mic, but if you do, it's a WiFi phone.
-Rainbowlight: a screen colour changing app. Good flashlight.
-Search: Search your contacts and emails.
-Screenshot: Yep!
-Sysinfo: Like TaskMan.exe
-Term-vt100: a good terminal.
-Vnotes: a voice notes app. Also only good if you make a mic.
-NES: a great NES emulator. The current release gets about 1-2 frameskip with sound. Not bad.
-GpsPhone: a good GBA emulator. I can comfortably play with about 3-4 Frameskip.
-iphysics: a cool little physics game.
-iphoneSynth: a cool synthesizer.
-Hum: it's odd.
-Sand: FALLING SAND.
-Sketches: a good yet buggy drawing app.
-Vnsea: an AMAZING VNC client.
-WeDict: a dictionary. Simple, but good.
-Stumbler: a Wi-Fi stumbler.
-Clock: Yay?
-DropCopy: lets you dragon drop files between iPods.
-iPong: a pretty bad Pong game.
-iDigger: boulderdash!
-ContraSense: an odd but interesting driving game.
-Sendsong: lets you send songs to an email address.
-Mixup: word scramble. Well coded.
-TextEdit: Like a boring version of notes; lets you save anywhere.
-Pedometer: a pretty decent pedometer app that works.
-ToDoList: VITAL for plan-making. A good to-do list.
-Lights off: a fun Lights off clone. Very polished.
-Multitouch: a cool scaling and rotation demo.
-Level: works as a leveler (those little yellow things with bubbles inside)
-Othello: Simple but working Othello game.
-iSnake: tilty snake. Odd; good though.
-Scribble: cool gravity drawing!
-Graffiti: a cool graffiti chat.
-Metronome: keep time!
-MusicQuiz: just like he music quiz app from the old ipods.
And play pong, even better!

I know this is somewhat off topic, but my DS Lite + R4 has everything but the multi-touch screen, and the high storage capacity.
You can do VOIP on the DS.
Full speed NES emulation.
a decent Snes emu
Moonshell and LMP can play a handful of popular music codecs (.mp3 .aac .wav etc)
Movies in moonshell
Has the whole Nintendo DS game library plus GBA library.
Can do AIM, MSN through a Homebrew web browser.
2 screens (not really a plus, but how many devices have 2 brightly lit full color LCD displays and still have decent battery life.
The audio quality may not be top notch, but it is still around PSP`s audio quality plus like x2 battery life of the PSP.
okay back on track, personally Im a Zune person, just the name ipod sends chills up my spine.

Apparently the software is not the same. I read it on... somewhere. If I knew where I'd link it.bicostp wrote:That doesn't make sense. DSOrganize has a decent web browser built in actually. Obviously the official opera one with the ram expansion is better but the homebrew one's serve their purpose of providing a free alternative.lifeisbetterwithketchup wrote:Just grab the DS Opera browser. (Note that you need the RAM expansion to use it)Dr. KillGood wrote: Can the R4 DS browse the interwebz?

If you have a data plane for the phone, yes.Adam G wrote:A quick question about the iPhone, I haven't really considered it or looked into it all all.
I assume that the cell connection works for Safari and MobileChat (Examples), is this true?
