Your opinion on the so called December 21, 2012 apocalypse.

Since most people here seem to be Atheist, lets please keep religion and such out of this discussion.

Nostradamus is a crock of crap. The people who "interpret" his "predictions" get very creative with their loose approximations, inverting letters, adding letters, flipping phrases around... You can make almost anything into anything else that way. Also, one famous Nostradamus believer (forget his name) actually made a second edition of one of his books which edited several predictions from the first after they didn't happen.

Now as for the world ending in 2012, that's bull too, especially when you consider the end of the world was supposed to happen at least 40 times since those predictions were made, notably dates such as 1666, June 6, 2006, the end of the Mayan calendar, and some time in 1981 (for some reason).

As for the causes you listed, here's what I think the chances are:

1: Nuclear War
The most likely scenario, but I don't think it will happen until one country has a disproportionately huge amount of political "pull" over the others.

2: Asteroid (maybe)
They're looking for them, and haven't found a dangerous one. Yet.

3: Religious things
Nope. Not gonna happen. I don't believe in fairy tales. And for those who do, we haven't had any alleged "miracles" in 2000 years, so why would a mighty being destroy our planet at some random time like the proverbial kid shaking an ant farm?

4: Global Warming
I call BS on that. The world has been going through hot and cold cycles for its entire existence. Just look at the ice ages. The polar ice caps were free of ice a couple times throughout history, but then the caps were back and huge glaciers covered the planet. Heck, back in the 70s they thought we were headed for another ice age (but nobody talks about that anymore).

I have to agree with you, except for reason 3 for reasons I won't get into. My friend has really strange-ass theories about 2012, he even has a "shelter". It was a bomb shelter built by the hippies that lived there before him, the entrance in his basement and theres a big room under his pool, theres another entrance in the shed. we're going to camp down there a few days this summer.

i for one wouldnt be supprised in fact depending on how you take the meaning of "end of the world", am looking forward to it, a radical change bringing about the end of the world as we know it, possibly for the better! but yea, at the rate we are going it wouldnt supprise me a bit if 2012 is the end of the world, that whole mayan calander thing. by fire flood earthquake or "jaguars falling from the sky".

The 2012 hypothesis is so fake that it makes Brittany Spear's boobs look real. There are countless things that could happen on this event, many can be split into 3 categories;

-Nothing will happen

-The human race will be annihilated some how

-Something will happen that benefits Humanity

the first choice is the most likely. Have you ever noticed that EVERY time someone predicts the end of the world, its always a farce, well except when Peter predicted the Nuclear Apocalypse.

I'm sure I'm with plenty of you guys when I say COME ON ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!!

Hopefully on a trip in Toronto, there's lots of guns there. I'm sure HD-C has at least 5. The only thing more fun than killing people is killing people without feeling bad and without consequences! It's EXACTLY like Real-life GTA!

Of course, the Jack Thompson zombie will be all "Uuuuuuuuuuuuuujhhhjhhh...stop t3h h8 VG playas!...uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuujghgjjjhhhh"
Hey, sup?

The world will not cease to exist at any time in the future. Humans may gradually die out, the world may be permanently scared, we just don't have the information that we need to have to draw a conclusion. The only guarantee is that nuclear apocalypse is one of the 3 likely almost instant human-enders. Other two being, of course, the inevitable super meteor (which may or may not come during the human race's occupation of earth) and the human-created supervirus.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

"I'm glad global warming never happened."
"Actually, it did. But thank God nuclear winter canceled it out."

USA anyone?? (political "pull" and "bull").
2: Asteroid (maybe)

The Grand Canyon; bye bye dinosaurs. Actually, there have been many "near misses"; if/when one is going to hit us it will, there is nothing we can do about it. Bye bye. Just a matter of time.

Yup.
4: Global Warming

Yup. The "Greenhouse Gas" people bang on about is the equivalent of a thin pencil line on a football pitch; so irrelevant; if the Greenhouse Gases were an issue, mankind would have died off during the Industrial Revolution, with all the smog clouds in Europe generated at the time!

We are all going to die at some point anyway. We aren't even the most successful species on this planet - the billions of bacteria types are (no pun intended, purely coincidence). They will continue to live when everything else is long gone.
