because I'm tired of getting the most relevant commercial results.

I remember back when i first got internet access (msn was still decent) I would search for something and there would be more homemade sites than professional bs.

Of course that was a decade ago.

"It's the corporations! They're trying to control our lives, man!" :P

Seriously, just use Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, Dogpile,Windows Live, Ask Jeeves, or any of the other millions of search engines out there. Anyone who keeps a decent database of the web on their servers probably spent a lot on server hardware and/or hosting, so of course they'll run ads or be commercialized (to make that money back), and the ones that don't probably have such a small part of the web listed that they're useless, or better yet they just put a new skin onto Google results.

If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.

The reason all the commercial sites come up on searches is that they are visited a ton more than the average personal site. Its not that Google says "He searched for PDA, lets tell him to go to Amazon so he can buy one there". Its because everyone else goes to Amazon and buys one, so its the most popular result (but its a joke to find the PDA's on Amazon, the only way is to search for them, theres no way to get to the category, retarded place) /rant.

If you want little sites for info, search more specifically or go to the last page of results and work your way back to the front.
