er, I'm not sure which has the best sound quality, all I know is that the SNES had the best MUSIC quality...that IS what matters, right :P?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I'd have to say Snes. After all, it's got Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Megaman X ..... the list of good tunes goes on and on! 8)

they just 'added' their 16-bit and 8-bit chips to come up with the magical "24 bits". really it was pretty much a genesis on steroids.

the music on it got absolutely amazing at times, which is why it's got my vote. Street Slam basketball--that's all I've got to say about neo-geo music. I still know most of the words...and rap along while I'm playing it.
actually the neogeoCD version is worth a purchase even if you don't have the system, just for the built-in CD soundtrack.

"This is three on three street basketball, if you wanna join in you gotta answer the call. Those short fat picks don't make no difference at all cause when the whistle blows this is a free for all!"

kind of an 80's style.
but aside from street slam (the best), galaxy fight and kof99 also stand out as having great tunes.

of course snes FFIII gets a nod too. lynx made the list, which is odd until I remember Elvira and the Party Monsters, and the shadow of the beast intro, but overall it doesn't really compare.
