Bondo's affect on your health?

Post by Edutainment » Mon Apr 02, 2007 1:58 pm

I heard Bondo is pretty bad for you... nothing specific, something about hand burning and toxic fumes? Ok that is specific... Wikipedia says so though! Should I really be using this stuff?

It could be kind of bad when wet, but not harmful at all when dry. Keep in mind that almost anybody can modify Wikipedia.

The stuff you're readin about is the can type bondo. It reacts exothermically, making heat, and a LOT of smelly fumes. I used it once, and never touched it again. Bondo Marine Putty all the way! (getting tired of saying this :P ) No smell, no mess, no heat, just simple use. Knead and apply, thats it. The only way that marine putty is harmful would be if you were to eat it. So... Don't. But if you do, tell us what it tastes like before you die, or crystallize, or whatever. I'm betting its marshmallow-like.

look I have been using the can type bondo for years and i can tell you that the only bad effects are that it does smell pretty bad and the dust from sanding can cause your lungs to hurt but use some common sense. I mean you don't spray-paint in a closed closet do you, the same rules apply to bondo, just use some ventilation and there is no harm done.
