Not quite the same, but I do have a good story from work...
Someone brought their computer in where I work (computer helpdesk at school) to have their computer reformatted and have windows reinstalled (it's a school computer, so we can do that stuff) She had a folder on her desktop made for us to backup already made. We copied that to our hard drive, reimaged the computer, put the stuff back in, and gave it back. Soon after she checked it out, I had to explain to her that she copied a shortcut to My Documents, not the folder itself. Feel bad for her, but it's kinda funny at the same time.

My brother deleted my 120 hour Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, all missions complete, Judgemaster Cid save file at the start of a 6 hour car journey. I think it was an accident, but I was still NOT amused. I later 'accidentely' dropped his SP
I dropped my friend's GBC the day after he got it on launch. My heart literally stopped, but luckily it was ok.
My friend's baby cousin threw my N64 controller pack in the toilet at his house. It was so funny and unexpected that I didn't care

I wish it was that way with the N64 MOBO. They are so fu (oh yeah no cursing on this site) easy to break. I have to admit, game cosoles in their cases are very durable (except PS3 and 360).
my first mod attempt to a PS2 was a failure, I started it and soon jumped 2 contacts together on some chip (I don't remember but it was an important one) and realized I couldn't fix it that easily and put it back together ( I was using a RadioShack iron, that was the real problem), I tried my PS2 and it didn't work, at least not video (that was the chip, not the main one but the other graphics chip), so I got a new MOBO and let the old one sit in my closet for 2 years. One day I got it out and used my new set of soldering tools to seperate the contacts and tried it, It actually worked, I was amazed. I still had to rewire the fan since I broke its plug off unplugging it, and I still couln't seperate the 2 halfs even with pliers or by pring it with a srewdriver. I have did this on other PS2s and they just unplug, never have I broke one other than this one. I finally got one wired and it was a working PS2 ... until I broke it again .

My nephew was throwing shoes at me while I was playing Donkey Konga, so I ended up throwing the bongos at him, which hit a lamp, and they took the GC along too, which hit the desk the lamp was on (the GC was on a desk too, so it also fell).

That's what's great about software: 99.999% of it won't completely destroy a computer. If only the people around here realised that... instead of using the sytem restore discs they throw PCs away. (And I mean THROW... the parts aren't worth anything afterward.)Gump-in-space wrote:I went through a lot of trouble trying to get a Dreamcast-PC server running, only to find I did something totally wrong and screwed up Windows on my brand new Dell. Good news: I fixed it.
I remember I deleted the System Folder on our Quadra once. Good news? Plug in an external hard drive, boot from that (20 seconds) copy the slightly old backup of the System Folder onto the hard drive (2 minutes), reboot (20 seconds again), and it's back to the way it was. (With old Brickles scores. )

I had a perfect battle tower record in pokemon crystal. I was in the final group of matches that would get me some prize I really wanted. I was called in to eat dinner, so I set my GBA down. When I came back my sisters were running out of the room, and the receptionist at the battle tower said "please try again", or something like that.
What is the real kicker, is that when I told my parents, they grounded me for 2 weeks, and took my GBA for "accusing my sisters".

I can rember, one of friends bought a brand new, $4000 powerbook G4, titanium. Put it in his computer bag. Walked out of the computer store, an the strap on the bag broke, and crack, onto the gutter.
The thing is now bent down the middle, by about 1/2 cm or more, but works fine oddly enough.
