Any Power Metal Fans?

Post by CronoTriggerfan » Fri Mar 16, 2007 3:31 pm

Anyone else here like power metal as much as me? I started out with Dragonforce (well, Dragonheart back then) and I was hooked. Currently, I'm listening to a lot of Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire, and now Axenstar. I'll listen to pretty much anything (save rap and hip hop :x ) but power metal is probably one of my favorite generes up there with video game music and chiptunes. Anyone heard any good power metal songs lately?

Just last week I picked up Nightwish's Oceanborn disc (at the recommendation of a friend) and I really like it! It's not something I could listen to all the time, but it's very enjoyable. Tracks 2 and 3 give me the chills! Good stuff.

I've never heard of any of the other artists you listed, but I think I need to check them out. :D

EDIT: Forgot to mention Edguy and Tobias Sammet, both worth checking out.

I only heard Dragonforce the other day on Scuzz, and the solos actually made me laugh, they were so ridiculously awesome :P . I havn't heard much else, so I can't really judge/recommend anything.

I like Dragonforce. I first heard them in Stepmania... their songs are INSANELY fun... but insanely difficult too. :P That was... I'm gonna say about a month ago. So yeah... they're awesome. My mom thinks they're gay... She doesn't really think they're that "heavy." ... She turned 45 yesterday... she played Guitar Hero half that day, so... yeah... (Her favorite song is Arterial Black.)

Try Avenged Sevenfold. They rock, 8) especially their solos. First album, too hardcore  . second album, perfect 8) . Third album, even better  . I have acces to their very first demo CD that got them their first contract :D ( my brother has it). You can get anything if you pay enough on Ebay  , it even came with the original letter that went with it. Have other demo CDs, too. Contains other various songs that you can't get anywhere else. :)

CTFan, Nightwish is symphonic metal... well maybe not now because there chick singer was a female dog, but, i think night wish would seriously pwn if they didn't ever have that chick in there in the first place. I hate that band because of the chick. But i love the guitar and Marco's (i think thats his name) voice.

I have one Hammerfall album (Chapter V), and two Sonata Arctica albums (Winterheats Guild & Ecliptica), but apart from that i'm not a big fan of power metal, blows most other genres out of the water though.

No Blind Guardian love?

They blow away just about every other power metal band ever, except for possibly Rhapsody.

Personally I like Freedom Call.

EDIT: I guess they fit in to power metal, I don't really keep up with the finer points of style divergence in the world of music.
