Captain America: Dead.

Yep, it's true. And, by all respects, permanent.

I'm not a comic book fan, but as a history/WW2 buff, it's saddening to see such a great American symbol go. Any of you guys read this?

Sad to see him go, I don't read comic books but my grandfather liked him while he was serving in Germany.

Never was too interested in him - never thought he correctly symbolized America. :P

IMO only a bad director/creator/whatever kills off their own character. It is a sign that whatever they are working on is starting to fail, so they start sabotauging their own work because they are out of real ideas... Boooooo.

The CNN article said that Captain America was in print for almost 60 years. He was an old man by the time he got shot. Not many 80 year olds can make a triuphant comeback after being shot by a sniper.

Pretty sure whatever it was they injected him with to save his life the 1st time made him live several 100 years longer, like Wolverine. Infact I think Cap and Wolvie were buddies back in the 40's or some weird thing like that... Or maybe that was Nick Fury.

@seige: they all 3 worked togather in WWII

everyone else: the marvel universe has a sliding time scale that allows some caraters like wolvie, cap, other muntants and other heros live a really looooonnnnngggg time, also you have to take into account that it is comics and they can have the time work the way they want. Cap was killed off because he just wasn't as popular anymore and in comics this is what is called a reset. probably what is going to happen is there will be a big funeral and a few comics after that before they start something similar with a new supertitle (the amazing, tha marvelous, the uncanny). I say this time they will either go with a female or someone of color, if they go with another blond haired, blue eyed guy he will probably be gay or something. Basically its just time to update the carater and that is exactly what they are doing.
